in SHOCKING K-Mad players' news

A's signed OF Jorge Piedra to a minor league contract and assigned him to Triple-A Sacramento. Piedra was let go by the Rockies last August and got surprisingly little interest considering his solid track record. He's unlikely to get a call-up anytime soon, but you never know with the A's.
The Mets have put Ambiorix Burgos on the disabled list at Triple-A New Orleans. "I've just heard that he has discomfort in his elbow," manager Willie Randolph said. "I hope it's not anything like Tommy John [surgery]." Burgos will test the elbow after giving it a few weeks rest.
Anibal Sanchez, who hasn't been cleared to throw off a mound, will have his right shoulder examined by team doctors this week. Sanchez has complained about shoulder pain since being sent to Triple-A Albuquerque in early May. It is looking less and less like he will be an option for the major league rotation this season.
