The Mariners have lost 17 games in a row and still have a better record than they do.

The real f'n Chicago Cubs are back!
I was getting a little worried along about the 7th inning last night when suddenly the Cubs appeared...
CHICAGO -- Vance Worley dominated over eight innings, Jimmy Rollins homered from both sides of the plate and the Philadelphia Phillies pounded Ryan Dempster and the Chicago Cubs 9-1 on a scorching Wednesday at Wrigley Field...
But finally some good news...
Alfonso Soriano remained ice-cold Wednesday, going 0-for-3 against the Phillies.
Soriano has opened the second half 1-for-21, and his average has dropped from .270 on June 30 to .249 now. On the plus side, he's only signed through 2014.

42% of Chicagoans Agree: WE SUCK
Forbes lists Chicago among nation's miserable cities
Chicago is America's third most miserable city, beating out bleak towns like Flint, Mich. and Buffalo, NY, according to a recently released Forbes magazine list.
Chicago's dubious ranking comes just six months after the magazine dubbed Chicago the most stressed-out city in America.
The magazine said Chicago's weather, long commute times, rising unemployment and the country's highest sales tax earned it the number three spot on the list, below Stockton, Calif. and Memphis.
For the first time this year, Forbes used "corruption" as a factor when ranking America's 150 largest metropolitan areas in order of misery, according to Forbes.com.
"Illinois' record of public corruption, particularly in the governor's office, is staggering," the article says. "Five of the past nine governors have been charged with crimes, and three, as of now, have served time in prison." To add insult to injury, the magazine writes that people have been migrating out of the city the last seven years, and that the Cubs' 100 year long title drought is 40 percent longer than any other major professional sports team.
Forbes used nine factors -- commute times, corruption, pro sports teams, Superfund sites, income and sales taxes, unemployment, violent crime and weather -- when ranking the cities.
Following Stockton, Memphis and Chicago are Cleveland, Modesto, Calif., Flint, Detroit, Buffalo, Miami and St. Louis.

da fix is in - dat's Da Chicago Way
Alfonso Soriano broke a tie with a solo homer in the bottom of the seventh to help the Cubs beat the Phillies 3-2 on Friday.
The Phillies have reason to be upset after this one. The Cubs tied it on a bases-loaded walk from Scott Eyre that surprised even Kosuke Fukudome, who stared at a pitch at his knees and then held up four fingers questioning whether umpire Bill Welke had in fact called it a ball. The Phillies later should have went back ahead in the top of the seventh, but what would have been an RBI infield single for Ryan Howard was called the third out when Chris Guccione blew the close call at first base. Soriano put the Cubs on top for good in the bottom of the seventh, earning Jeff Samardzija (who would have given up the go-ahead run) his first major league victory.

Suppan?!, Kendall?!?! lead Brewers over Cubs 8-2 as Chicago loses 2nd straight
Preview Box Score Recap
CHICAGO (AP)—So much for the Chicago Cubs getting off to a fast start in their quest to win the World Series for the first time in 100 years. Jeff Suppan held Chicago to two runs and six hits in 6 1-3 innings, Rickie Weeks homered on the game’s first pitch and Jason Kendall reached base five straight times to lead the Milwaukee Brewers over the Cubs 8-2 Wednesday. Ryan Braun and ex-Cub Kendall—batting ninth—had three hits each in Milwaukee’s 14-hit attack. The Cubs were 8 1/2 games back of the Brewers in late June last season after a slow start before overtaking Milwaukee to win the NL Central. Chicago lost Monday’s opener 4-3 in 10 innings.
Suppan (1-0) gave up Derrek Lee’s home run leading off the fourth on a 41-degree day and left after allowing Geovany Soto’s (MONK!) home in the seventh. Salomon Torres relieved Suppan and, after consecutive one-out singles by Felix Pie and Mike Fontenot, retired Ryan Theriot on a flyout and struck out Alfonso Soriano—off to an 0-for-9 start. Chicago starter Ted Lilly (0-1) gave up four runs and five hits in 4 2-3 innings.
Milwaukee took a 3-0 lead in the fourth when Braun doubled off Aramis Ramirez’s glove at third, Bill Hall had an RBI single and Corey Hart delivered an RBI double. Lee’s first homer got a run back for the Cubs in the bottom half but Milwaukee drove out Lilly in the fifth when Kendall doubled, and Lilly hit Prince Fielder in the side with a two-out pitch. Braun greeted Kevin Hart with an RBI single for a 4-1 lead. Fans at Wrigley Field started to boo* the Cubs in the sixth when Milwaukee scored without a hit thanks to two walks, three stolen bases and a Soto’s error.
Notes
Longtime Cubs’ clubhouse manager Yosh Kawano, who joined the team in 1943, two years before its last World Series appearance, is leaving the job. He will stay with team in another capacity and be honored at a ceremony later this season. Kawano turns 87 in June. Dis poor guy has probably seen more losses in the history of losing dan anybody...

SHOCKING!
Cubs raise ticket prices
November 30, 2007 BY TONI GINNETTI
The price of success and maintaining an aging ball park will cost Cubs fans as much as 30 percent more next season. The team is raising the price of all classes of seats after a two-year price hold. The price of the highest price club box seats will rise from $54 to $70 for 25 ‘‘regular’’ games and from $65 to $80 for 50 designated ‘‘prime’’ games.
The price of bleacher seats will rise from $30 to $36 for regular games and from $40 to $45 for prime games. The lowest-priced seats, upper deck reserve outfield, will go from $14 to $16 for regular games and from$17 to $20 for prime games. There will be six ‘‘value’’ games with lower prices, from$50 for the highest price seats to $10 for the lowest price seats and $22 for bleacher seats.
‘‘Our pledge to field a championship team*, improve the playing field and maintain the 93-year-old Friendly Confines requires we take this [price increase] step now,’’ director of ticket operations Frank Maloney said in a letter to season’s ticketholders. ‘‘The Cubs average ticket price remains significantly lower than the Boston Red Sox, the only other team still playing in a park as old as ours.’’ The Red Sox have set 2008 ticket prices ranging from $26 for bleacher seats to $125 for the highest-priced field box seats.
