Cubs Really Hendried It This Time
Jim "Moral Hazard" Hendry wants you to know he won't just give players away, no matter what all these straw men want him to do:
Hendry said before the weekend started that he was not going to make a deal just to make a deal and that he was not going to give players away.
I'm so sick of all these jerks who want Hendry to give players away for nothing. Thanks for not listening to nobody's terrible advice, Jim!

The real f'n Chicago Cubs are back!
I was getting a little worried along about the 7th inning last night when suddenly the Cubs appeared...
CHICAGO -- Vance Worley dominated over eight innings, Jimmy Rollins homered from both sides of the plate and the Philadelphia Phillies pounded Ryan Dempster and the Chicago Cubs 9-1 on a scorching Wednesday at Wrigley Field...
But finally some good news...
Alfonso Soriano remained ice-cold Wednesday, going 0-for-3 against the Phillies.
Soriano has opened the second half 1-for-21, and his average has dropped from .270 on June 30 to .249 now. On the plus side, he's only signed through 2014.

Milton Bradley left Tuesday's game with a right calf strain, the team's official site reports.
Recommendation: Reed Johnson replaced Bradley in the field for the fourth inning. He's struggled to produce around nagging injuries this season, and it's only Year 1 of the three-year, $30 million deal that Jim Hendry gave him over the winter.

It's been a great signing, so far...
Milton Bradley is not in the Cubs' starting lineup on Thursday.
He returned to action on Wednesday night, but went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts, and manager Lou Piniella has now told him he won't start until he's 100 percent. Furthermore, when he does return, he's expected to bat sixth instead of fourth. Micah Hoffpauir, starting in right field on Thursday, will get the majority of playing time until Bradley is ready.
So between "not being 100 percent," suspensions and the weather (blame Skilly!), M-Brad might be looking at 100 games played this year. Still, he is great in the clubhouse.
In related "What is Hendry smoking?" news, Luis Vizcaino (ERA 0.00) and his $3.6 million* salary have been released and Jeff Samardzija has been recalled. I must have missed what Samardzija has done other than walking a lot of guys?
*Make that $4.6 million since Pizza Man gave Colorado $1 million to take the mistake that was Jason Marquis off his hands.

breaking, SHOCKING news
Cubs acquired RHPs Rich D.L. Harden and Chad Gaudin from the Oakland Athletics for RHP Sean Gallagher, OF Matt Murton, INF Eric Patterson and C Josh Donaldson. If Harden can stay healthy, and that's a huge "if," the deal fills the Cubs' biggest need on the heels of Milwaukee signing C.C. Sabathia earlier this week. Harden is 5-1 with a 2.34 ERA in 13 starts this season, and has 92 strikeouts in 77 innings, but he did spend a month on the disabled list. Gaudin is 5-3 with a 3.59 ERA, and will join Chicago's bullpen.

Jim Edmonds is 37 years old, can't run anymore, can't hit. That's what the critics were saying when he signed with the Cubs. Stupid critics. The least they could have done was give the guy a chance, and ...
Yes, I was the one who wrote that four Wednesdays ago. I also said he couldn't make his signature diving, back-to-the-infield catches anymore. At least I wasn't booing, like the fans.
In other words, it was ''Welcome to Chicago, Jim.'' And while he's still 37, still can't run, still can't make the highlight dives, he has been a big catch for the Cubs. Edmonds still has something left after all.
And it's something the Cubs needed: a left-handed hitter to share the job in center field.

The Chicago Scum-Slimes reports that the Cubs will pursue Jim Edmonds as soon as he clears waivers on Wednesday.
Sources tell the "paper" that Edmonds has told his agent that the Cubs are the first team he wants to talk with. Edmonds would likely replace Felix Pie on the team's roster, and share center field duties with Reed Johnson.

The Chicago Tribune reports that the Cubs "are exploring the possibility" of signing Jim Edmonds. Let go by the Padres last week, Edmonds' arrival would send Felix Pie back to Triple-A. He batted .178/.265/.233 in 26 games with the Padres, whereas Pie is hitting .222/.286/.286 through 29 games, and Edmonds is 15 years older.
