A TREMENDOUS @SSH@LE UNTIL THE VERY END...

Cheney says Guantanamo should stay open, waterboarding OK

WASHINGTON (AFP) – The Guantanamo 'war on terror' detention center should remain open indefinitely, Vice President Richard Cheney told ABC News in an interview Monday, while also defending the harsh interrogation method known as waterboarding.

Cheney was asked when the detention camp at the US naval base at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba can be "responsibly" be shut down. "Well, I think that that would come with the end of the war on terror," he told ABC.

And when is that? "Well, nobody knows," Cheney said. "Nobody can specify that."

In previous wars the United States has "always exercised the right to capture the enemy and then hold them till the end of the conflict. That's what we did in World War II with, you know, thousands, hundreds of thousands of German prisoners," Cheney said.

"The same basic principle ought to apply here in terms of our right to capture the enemy and hold them.

The other option, Cheney said, "is to turn them over to somebody else. A lot of them, nobody wants. I mean, there's a great resistance sometimes in the home countries to taking these people back into their own territory."

According to Cheney, some 30 detainees who were released from Guantanamo "ended up back on the battlefield again, and we've encountered them a second time around. But they've either been killed or captured in further conflicts with our forces."

Cheney also said he helped authorize interrogation methods used on Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, an Al-Qaeda operative detained in Pakistan and sent to Guantanamo who has confessed to being a top planner of the September 11, 2001 terror attacks in the United States.

Sheikh Mohammed was subjected to a forced interrogation method that simulates drowning known as waterboarding.

"I was aware of the program, certainly, and involved in helping get the process cleared, as the agency in effect came in and wanted to know what they could and couldn't do," Cheney said.

"And they talked to me, as well as others, to explain what they wanted to do. And I supported it," Cheney said.

ABC asked him if in hindsight he thought the tactics went too far. "I don't," Cheney said.

The Cheney interview is to air on ABC late Monday and early Tuesday, the network said, as it released an advanced transcript of the questions and answers~

Issue #1: Would you be less inclinded to vote for Barrack Hussein Obama if you knew that he has an illegitimate white baby?

McCain Sells His Soul: Hires Man Who Sunk His 2000 Campaign
By: Bill W. @ 11:00 AM - PDT

John McCain has claimed that he believes “there is a special place in hell” for Tucker Eskew and the others who were behind the push-poll that implanted the idea in S.C. voters’ minds in 2000 that he had fathered an illegitimate black child, but that sure didn’t stop him from hiring Eskew to help prepare Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.

Jake Tapper: McCain Hires GOP Operative Who Helped Smear Him in South Carolina in 2000
Former officials of Sen. John McCain’s 2000 campaign expressed shock and disbelief Monday to learn than the GOP presidential nominee had hired South Carolina political consultant Tucker Eskew.
Eskew, along with Warren Tompkins and Neal Rhodes, were key members of then-Gov. George W. Bush’s South Carolina team during the 2000 primaries. McCain and his team long held Bush, Tompkins, Rhodes and Eskew responsible for the various smears against McCain and his family in the Palmetto state during that contentious contest. […]
Asked if the McCain campaign would have a comment about hiring one of the South Carolina strategists the senator and his 2000 campaign team once held responsible for smears against him, McCain 2008 spokesman Brian Rogers emailed, “No.”

This shouldn’t come as much of a surprise after
McCain hired Rove’s protegĂ© two months ago and began running the negative campaign he pledged not to. There’s apparently no depth of depravity that McCain won’t stoop to and no issue he won’t flip-flop on in an attempt to win this election.

The Avalanche Continues

J. E. Stiglitz and Linda Bilmes: No such thing as a war for free

And this is what McBush wants to continue for another 100 years? Seriously, do we want to take a crack at solving America's problems, or make some people seriously rich at the cost of nearly 4,000 American lives and an undetermined, mind bogglingly large number of Iraqi lives? Not to mention everyone else in the world hating us?

Where are those New Zealand emigration papers...

Dick Cheney to Everyone: Go Fuck Yourself

An enormous asshole or a gigantic asshole??

Why does Dick Cheney hate the American people?

Raddatz: Two-thirds of Americans say it’s not worth fighting, and they’re looking at the value gain versus the cost in American lives, certainly, and Iraqi lives.

Cheney: So?

Raddatz: So — you don’t care what the American people think?

Cheney: No, I think you cannot be blown off course by the fluctuations in the public opinion polls. Think about what would have happened if Abraham Lincoln had paid attention to polls, if they had had polls during the Civil War. He never would have succeeded if he hadn’t had a clear objective, a vision for where he wanted to go, and he was willing to withstand the slings and arrows of the political wars in order to get there. And this President has been very courageous, very consistent, very determined to continue down the course we were on and to achieve our objective.

'Girl' at Japan school was 39-year-old man
Tokyo, Japan
22 February 2008 07:27

A Japanese man was arrested for trespassing this week after turning up at a high school dressed in a girl's uniform and a long wig, local police said.

Thirty-nine-year-old Tetsunori Nanpei told police he had bought the uniform over the internet and put it on to take a stroll near the school in Saitama, north of Tokyo, on Wednesday, the daily Asahi Shimbun said.

When students standing outside the gates started to scream at the sight of him, he dashed inside the school grounds, hoping to blend in with the crowds of teenagers, the paper said.

They also screamed, forcing the man to flee, losing his wig in the process. A school clerk pursued him and stopped him at a nearby riverbank, the paper said.

Police confirmed the arrest of the man in school uniform and wig but declined to give further details. - Reuters

Another chickenhawk, too...

Rep. Dana Rohrbacher, Torture Apologist Extraordinaire
Watching Maher Arar’s Congressional testimony last week — via satellite from Canada, because the Bush administration still refuses to allow him entry to this country despite being acquitted of all terror charges — made me sick to my stomach. Putting aside what the administration has done to this wholly innocent man — which is deplorable and cringe-inducing enough in and of itself — for Rep. Dana Rohrbacher the ends justify the means. He has the audacity to defend the rendition and dismiss the subsequent torture of a family man who was guilty of nothing but having a similar name with a suspected terrorist and being in the wrong place at the wrong time as a “mistake.” Absolutely shameful.

The gift that keeps on giving...

Larry Craig to Senate: I wish I knew how to quit you

Sen. Larry Craig won’t resign from the Senate while awaiting a judge’s ruling on his effort to get a guilty plea withdrawn in a restroom sex sting, a source said Wednesday. Sen. Larry Craig is seeking to overturn his guilty plea stemming from an airport bathroom sex sting.[..] Craig had said he would resign from the Senate if he could not get the guilty plea overturned by September 30. But Craig on Tuesday said he won’t resign until “legal determinations” are made.[..] A Republican source involved in discussions about the case said Craig has made it clear he wants to find a way to stay in office.

In related news, Craig voted against the SCHIP bill and poor chidren. Maybe some poor kid shoulda given "Wide Stance" a handjob? Come on, childrens, do you want health care, or not?

Even 'Crazy' Ted Stevens and Orrin Hatch voted for the bill. Hatch said, "It's difficult for me to understand how anyone wouldn't want to do this." The other "family-value" Republican senators who in reality hate poor kids, could care less if they were all dead, and would rather fund 45 days in Iraq instead (more dead people - YAY!):

Here's anudder big-money Republican @$$hole i hate. HATE.

After Bush & Co., who let moral degenerate CEOs like this run wild, on the short list for @$$hole of the Year:

CNN Softballs Bob Murray…What about those documents?

Last week he said, "These are the worst mining conditions I've seen in fifty years..." Uh, dude, it's YOUR phokking mine, and YOU got the feds to let you do whatever the phokk you wanted to do, so who's fault is this? And safety? Yeah, i know, that shit costs money--but what's a few miners lives' lost, especially if they're Mexican...dat's da American Way, apparently. Well, Bushian, certainly. Go phokk yourself.

Another stupid, phokking thing he said right after the accident: "Without coal to manufacture our electricity, our products will not compete in the global marketplace against foreign countries…and people on fixed incomes will not be able to pay their electric bills... And every one of these global warming bills that has been introduced in Congress to date eliminates the coal industry and will increase your electric rates four to five-fold.” So let me see if i've got this straight: Better mine safety (which has nothing to do with global warming) is anti-American? Phokk you.

Oh yeah, his good buddy, Richard Stickler, head of the Mine Safety and Health Administration, was a Bush recess appointment. Even the Republicans in congress didn't want this phokking guy.

or, how to make Barry Bonds look good

Commissioner Bud Selig announced that he will not take any disciplinary measures against Jason Giambi given his cooperation with Senator George Mitchell's investigation and his off-field charitable activities.
How ridiculous. The only reason Selig didn't issue a suspension months ago is that he knew there was no way it'd hold up in front of an arbitrator. Everything else is merely politics. Giambi essentially admitted to using steroids in an interview earlier this year, but since he didn't pinpoint when it happened, there was never anything that could be done.
