Meet the next rising Republican star...
Meet John Fleming, the unfortunate Republican U.S. Representative from Louisiana who made that wonderful and all-too-common mistake of thinking that an Onion article was real and telling his Facebook followers to read it.

Zombie Nation
President most Americans want back to handle our economic crisis ... Reagan.
Observed in the elevator this morning. Charities that Americans would most want to volunteer their time for ... No. 1 Animal charities at 17%; No. 2 poor and needy 15%.
I can't help thinking Orwell would be proud.

Will someone from Camp BushCo get in the room with these amateurs and tell them how it's done before Grandpa goes unhinged and strangles someone?
The time to let on that your [P]rezzziduntial ticket is clueless is after they're electorated.
Memo to Joe Biden: Let Palin Talk
For those who worry about expectations being so low that she can't help but beat them, that she did well in Alaska debates (by being spunky and bluffing through with gimmicks like patting a "stack of solutions" on health care), consider this:
Capitol Hill sources are telling me that senior McCain people are more than concerned about Palin.
The campaign has held a mock debate and a mock press conference; both are being described as "disastrous." One senior McCain aide was quoted as saying, "What are we going to do?" The McCain people want to move this first debate to some later, undetermined date, possibly never. People on the inside are saying the Alaska Governor is "clueless."

RNC on global warming: behold the stupidity
GRITtv features ANP Report: Global Warming Heats Up RNC
The American News Project reports on the Republican Party and what its delegates think about global warming. Judging by those interviewed at the Convention it's no wonder that Sarah Palin, a global warming doubter, is stealing the show. The 2008 Republican Platform cautions “against the doomsday climate change scenarios peddled by the aficionados of centralized command-and-control government.” Even though presidential candidate John McCain thinks that global warming is created, in part, by humans, his running mate, Sarah Palin, disagrees. And her record on the environment in general is dismal. The Independent reports that she, "has an environmental policy so toxic it would make the incumbent, George Bush, blush."

more liberal nitpicking - the kind of thing only an America-hating smarty-pants elitist would notice
The McCain Tech Policy In Action!
"...this latest gaff, running a picture of Walter Reed Middle School on the green screen behind McCain instead of Walter Reed Hospital because they screwed up a Google images search, has certainly cemented not merely McCain, but the McCain campaign, as being in the ranks of the terminally clueless on matters technical."

just when you think you have explored every dark, hidden, bat-shit encrusted cove in their labyrinth of stupidity...
...you find a whole new unexplored cave of yawning moron you never knew about.
A large plurality of National Journal's Republican Political Insiders say they have more respect for John McCain's judgment because he tapped Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as his running mate. Forty-six percent said they now respect McCain's judgment "much more" or "a little more"; 25 percent said they now respect it "much less" or "a little less"; and 29 percent said his VP choice didn't change their assessment....
More than 70 percent of right-of-center bloggers responding to the same question said the pick boosted their respect for McCain's judgment. One called the Palin pick "the most riveting thing in politics since 'Tear down this wall.'" ("I can't feed myself," he added... Ed.)

RezzzzziDUNCE coming after KO
Republicans, this strategist said, view MSNBC as “basically a 527 for Obama.” (A 527 is a tax-exempt group created to influence elections.) The Gillespie letter, he said, “fired up the troops on the Hill, gave Republicans something to be happy about, gave the McCain campaign something to be happy about. I think it was a net plus for the Republican Party.”

Even though Obama and Clinton made it to DC to vote, McCain couldn't be bothered (though he was on the record as not supporting the bill).
Even Larry Craig voted Yea. Of course, he does like a man in uniform.

Really, is there anyone more brain-dead than Michael Medved? (non-Bush division)
Michael Medved Plays To The Lowest Denominator. Again.
The idea of a distinctive, unifying, risk-taking American DNA might also help to explain our most persistent and painful racial divide - between the progeny of every immigrant nationality that chose to come here, and the one significant group that exercised no choice in making their journey to the U.S. Nothing in the horrific ordeal of African slaves, seized from their homes against their will, reflected a genetic predisposition to risk-taking, or any sort of self-selection based on personality traits.

Republicans running out of groups to hate on...
You know they will have reached the pinnacle of pettiness then they vote against "Plutocratic Rich White Guys Day"...
"Republicans Vote Against Moms; No Word Yet on Puppies, Kittens."
On Wednesday afternoon, the House had just voted, 412 to 0, to pass H. Res. 1113, "Celebrating the role of mothers in the United States and supporting the goals and ideals of Mother's Day," when Rep. Todd Tiahrt (R-Kan.), rose in protest.
"Mr. Speaker, I move to reconsider the vote," he announced.
Rep. Kathy Castor (D-Fla.), who has two young daughters, moved to table Tiahrt's request, setting up a revote. This time, 178 Republicans cast their votes against mothers.

I spose eventually you might get to the question, why does McCain's campaign site have a recipe page?
Bloggers Find Something Fishy In McCain Site's 'Family Recipes'
Washington Post, April 16, 2008
Ahh, the home cooking of Sen. John McCain's wife, Cindy. You can almost smell her Ahi tuna with Napa cabbage slaw or her rosemary chicken with warm spinach salad as you peruse the recipes on her husband's campaign Web site.
Or you could have, until yesterday, when that part of the site was taken down after bloggers revealed that several of the "McCain Family Recipes" were, in fact, copied word for word from the Food Network.
Cindy McCain's tuna recipe was actually developed and submitted to the Food Network by cookbook author and former "Cooking Thin" host Kathleen Daelemans. The recipe for farfalle pasta with turkey sausage, peas and mushrooms was a "quick pasta classic" from the TV show "Everyday Italian." That old McCain standby -- rosemary chicken -- was a creation of TV chef Rachael Ray and was lifted, with a few changes, from the same Food Network site.
All three were listed on a McCain Web page titled "Cindy's Recipes."
"Apparently a Web intern added Rachael Ray to our policy team without her knowing it," McCain spokesman Tucker Bounds deadpanned yesterday. (Hah! Good one... I'll try the veal... ed.) "He was swiftly dealt with, and the page is down for revision."
...
Even if the recipes had been Cindy McCain's own, it's hard to see how the campaign thought it could win over Middle American voters with dishes such as crab scampi served over whole-wheat spaghetti.

Most Republicans Think the U.S. Health Care System is the Best in the World. Democrats Disagree
Source: Harvard School of Public Health
A recent survey by the Harvard School of Public Health (HSPH) and Harris Interactive, as part of their ongoing series, Debating Health: Election 2008, finds that Americans are generally split on the issue of whether the United States has the best health care system in the world (45% believe the U.S. has the best system; 39% believe other countries have better systems; 15% don’t know or refused to answer) and that there is a significant divide along party lines. Nearly seven-in-ten Republicans (68%) believe the U.S. health care system is the best in the world, compared to just three in ten (32%) Democrats and four in ten (40%) Independents who feel the same way.

Crybaby Boehner and Republicans walk out of Congress
I love it that he calls the Democrats out for "political grandstanding" before they walk out.
The grandstanding is voting on the Bushies' cronies contempt of Congress for refusing to testify...

I would like to have a beer with Fred Thompson
From the Washington Post, 12/12/07:
His 87-year-old mother's advice persuaded him to reject the new intelligence report that Iran has suspended its nuclear program. "Remember whatcha mama told ya," he says. If somethin' appears to be too good to be true, it probably is." Is it possible to be too folksy? Thompson seems determined to find out.

next in line if/when Mitt-fer-brainzz and Ru(9/11)dy flame out: annudder idiot
Huckabee's Belief in Adam and Eve
Mike Huckabee’s views on how life began came up again in a recent interview the Republican candidate had with Bill O’Reilly, a talk-show host on Fox News.
According to this account in The Washington Post, Mr. Huckabee, a former governor of Arkansas, told Mr. O’Reilly he has no reason to doubt that Adam and Eve were real people. He also reiterated that, even though he is not sure of the details of how it unfolded, he does believe God created humans.
...
The item quotes Bill Maher, a talk-show host on HBO, who argued in an interview with Mr. Huckabee that the topic was relevant: “If someone believes that the earth is 6,000 years old, when every scientist in the world knows it’s billions of years old, why shouldn’t I take that into account when I’m assessing the rationality of someone I’m going to put in the highest office in the land?”
The Post also looks at how Dennis J. Kucinich’s comments this week about having an encounter with a UFO may or may not fit into this discussion.
