Is someone playing Taps? Decker?

Free agent Greg Maddux will announce his retirement Monday at the baseball winter meetings in Las Vegas. The future first-ballot Hall of Famer makes his home in Vegas, so he doesn't have far to go. Agent Scott Boras confirmed the decision on Friday.

#31 Fans

So I checked this so called baseball blog of ours, and I find that there are only 3 Maddux references. And none of them from the Cubby fans. So I ask myself, what's going on? You can't call these guys every 5th day, yet no fawning over him on the LoC? So I goes to the Padres internets sites. He's got a losing record, & an ERA a tad over 4. Not pleasing, but not enuff to make them shut up, me thought. Then I goes to the roster site. He shows up as #30. #30?!?!? Why is he number 30? I looked at the full roster. No #31 there. So what gives?

Maddux the Wuss

So I'm watching Sportscenter while eating my breakfast, and they come to the obligatory "Barry Bonds" part of the broadcast. He's on his way to Smiff-Land, where he runs into the buzzsaw that is Gregory Maddux. Except Maddux said "It's easy to pitch to Barry, just walk him. It's not hard to throw four about two feet outside." It's been 9 years since Barry took Gregory deep. Apparently Greg wants to keep it that way. The wussy way.
