Smiff and Gooch Stayin' Classy
Tadahito Iguchi's agent said Thursday that his client turned down several multi-year contract offers to sign with the Padres for one year and $4 million. Iguchi is said to have had a two-year offer to play second base for the Rockies and a three-year offer to play third base for the Phillies. Instead, he takes a one-year deal to play in the majors' most extreme pitcher's ballpark. Like Ron Burgundy, he must think that San Diego is a very classy place.

Calif. fire crews prepare for dry winds
LOS ANGELES - Officials in Southern California began deploying firefighting crews and equipment Sunday as meteorologists predicted a return of the dry winds that stoked last month's devastating brush blazes.

Seeing 70
The thermometer hit 70 this afternoon at Lindbergh Field for the first time all month. The last time it was 70 or higher was Oct. 29. Entering today, the average temperature for the month was 60.8, or 2.8 degrees below normal.
Sunday's rain was the first measurable precipitation in San Diego since Oct. 17. The season total is 0.46 of an inch.
A brief offshore wind event* early today after the storm cleared out is already dissipating. Wind gusts hit 42 mph in Julian this morning, but at 3:14 p.m., the strongest gust was half that, at 21 mph.
The Northwest should get pounded** with storms this week. See the Pacific infrared satellite loop here.

He knows there is plenty of truth in his joke, but he also knows its a long way from the whole story. "Actually there is plenty of weather to forecast in San Diego from the morning marine cloud and fog banks to frosty nights and heat waves. There are Pacific winter storms, El Ninos and La Ninas, Santa Anas, SOSA's (Sort Of Santa Anas), WOFs (Walls of Fog) that come ashore following Santa Anas, June Gloom and there are mountain snow storms and summer heat waves. There are droughts and floods. We have plenty of weather. But we also have long spells of wonderful sunny, mild weather. San Diego is famous for our good weather. It's what makes this America's Finest City." Suckers!
