An open apology from Da Mare to LoC bitchers & whiners who complain about all that sucks in Chicago

Daley issues sarcastic apology for torture
Mayor Daley on Thursday issued a sarcastic blanket apology for the alleged torture of suspects by former Chicago Police Lt. Jon Burge. The best way is to say, 'Okay. I apologize to everybody [for] whatever happened to anybody in the city of Chicago.' So, I apologize to everybody. Whatever happened to them in the city of Chicago in the past, I apologize," Daley said.

California bans restaurants from using trans fats
Fri Jul 25, 4:26 PM ET
California is joining the health crusade against artery-clogging trans fats. Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger signed legislation Friday that will prohibit restaurants and other "food facilities" from using oil, margarine and shortening containing trans fats. Violations could result in fines of $25 to $1,000. Food sold in their manufacturers' sealed packaging would be exempt. New York City and Philadelphia have ordinances banning trans fats, but Schwarzenegger's office says California is the first state to adopt such a law.

However, this is not:

Stop Arnold: Sign the petition to protect 200,000 state workers
Tell Governor Schwarzenegger to halt the wage cuts and close the Yacht Tax loophole
Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger just announced that he will sign an Executive Order on Monday slashing the wages of over 200,000 state employees to the bare minimum. Not California's minimum wage of $8 per hour. The federal minimum wage of $6.55. Six dollars and fifty-five cents an hour. Imagine trying to pay your bills on $6.55 an hour, or buy liquor. Now imagine what will happen to thousands of vital service workers forced to live on poverty-level wages, or buy liquor. A nauseating irony: many state employees may need to seek aid from the very state services that employ them. This is absolutely outrageous. And the only way we can stop Arnold is by raising our voices as loud as possible in protest before 9 a.m. on Monday. Please sign our petition to Governor Schwarzenegger. On Monday morning, we'll deliver thousands of your signatures to the Governor's office...

Contraception = Abortion

The Department of Health and Human Services has issued a proposal which allows federally funded health care providers to deny contraception on the grounds that it may be abortion. By redefining pregnancy to include fertilization before implantation, contraception becomes abortion.

My favourite part of the article linked above:

It now claims that pregnancy begins at some biologically unknowable moment (there's no test to determine if a woman's egg has been fertilized). Under these new standards there would be no way for a woman to prove she's not pregnant. Thus, any woman could be denied contraception under HHS' new science.

That is so beautiful. And if we really want to push the envelope and prevent abortions, I think we need to monitor women who could be aborting their children. All women of child bearing age should be incarcerated and under complete government control. I mean if they can't prove they aren't pregnant there is no reason to let them go walking around to their abortionists. Or even smoking, drinking or trying to stay slim rather than providing the care and nutrients that their possibly male sons could desperately need. Ug.

"It's time for members of Congress to address the pain that high gas prices are causing our citizens," the president said, while his oil buddies make record profits... "Every extra dollar that American families spend because of high gas prices is one less dollar they can use to put food on the table or send a child to college.** The American people deserve better.*"

Desk rage spoils workplace for many Americans

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Get out of the way, road rage. Here comes desk rage.

Anger in the workplace -- employees and employers who are grumpy, insulting, short-tempered or worse -- is shockingly common and likely growing as Americans cope with woes of rising costs, job uncertainty or overwhelming debt, experts say.

"It runs the gamut from just rudeness up to pretty extreme abusive behaviors," said Paul Spector, professor of industrial and organizational psychology at the University of South Florida. "The severe cases of fatal violence get a lot of press but in some ways this is more insidious because it affects millions of people."

Nearly half of U.S. workers in America report yelling and verbal abuse on the job, with roughly a quarter saying it has driven them to tears, research has shown.

Other research showed one-sixth of workers reported anger at work has led to property damage, while a tenth reported physical violence and fear their workplace might not be safe.

"It's a total disaster," said Anna Maravelas, author of "How to Reduce Workplace Conflict and Stress." "Rudeness, impatience, people being angry -- we used to do that kind of stuff at home but at work, we were professional. Now it's almost becoming trendy to do it at work.

Dis explains a lot (cont'd)

Sleeping at work -- more of us are doing it

(LifeWire) -- At Jason Keith's last job, he discovered a colleague sound asleep at work -- head back, mouth open, snoring loudly -- while his co-workers laughed and snapped photos with their cell phone cameras.

"At first I thought he was faking it, but he was completely passed out," says Keith, 31, who works for a digital printing company outside Boston, Massachusetts. "He left the company about a month after that episode." (Woops! -- ed.)
.....

"We are a sleep-deprived nation," says Rubin Naiman, a sleep specialist with a doctorate in blah blah blah...
.....

Naiman recommends avoiding caffeine after lunch. About alcohol, he says, "Less is better, earlier is better and with food is better." (Know what would be even better? For you to go phokk yourself... Sorry but I'm grouchy when I'm sleepy... ed.)

Rumors to Rest
By Tobin Harshaw

Good advice from the enemy? Jim Geraghty of National Review’s Campaign Spot blog thinks Barack Obama would be wise to release his birth certificate, thus quelling “unlikely” rumors circulating on the right side of the Web.

Rumor one: Obama was born in Kenya. Rather unlikely, as it would require everyone in his family to lie about this in every interview and discussion with those outside the family since young Obama appeared on the scene. However, if it were true, it would probably raise a major question of “does he qualify as a natural-born citizen”? If Obama were born outside the United States, one could argue that he would not meet the legal definition of natural-born citizen under because U.S. law at the time of his birth required his natural-born parent (his mother) to have resided in the United States for “ten years, at least [five] of which had to be after the age of 16.”

Ann Dunham was 18 when Obama was born – so she wouldn’t have met the requirement of five years after the age of 16.

(Interestingly, apparently there isn’t much paperwork on Obama’s parents’ marriage. Obama: From Promise to Power, page. 27: “Obama later confessed that he never searched for the government documents on the marriage, although Madelyn (Obama’s maternal grandmother) insisted they were legally married.” Also note that Obama’s father apparently was not legally divorced from his first wife back in Kenya at the time, a point of contention that ultimately led to their separation.)

Rumor Two: Obama’s middle name is not “Hussein” but “Muhammad.”

As Politifact notes, all available public records going back to 1991 refer to the candidate as “Barack H. Obama.”

It is theoretically possible, if not plausible, that Obama changed his name at some earlier point in his life, as he was sorting out his issues of culture and identity. But this would mean that Obama recognized how emotionally-charged the name “Muhammad” would become in American life long before the 9/11 attacks. And if you’re going to change your middle name from that of the central figure in Islam because you fear controversy, picking the last name of the highest-profile anti-American dictator in the Middle East (Saddam) doesn’t seem like a huge improvement.

Rumor Three: His mother did not want to name him after his father, and his birth certificate says “Barry.” Perhaps the most plausible of the rumors, as Obama was known by that name through much of his childhood and young adulthood. If true, this would spur a new round of “When Barry Became Barack” stories – a minor headache for the campaign, but hardly a major scandal.

Charter to Snoop on Broadband Customers' Web Histories for Ad Networks

Wired, May 13, 2008
By Ryan Singel

Charter Communications, one of the nation's largest ISPs, plans to begin eavesdropping on the web surfing of its customers, in order to help web advertisers deliver targeted ads.

In letters being sent to some of its 2.7 million high-speed internet customers, Charter is billing its new web tracking program as an "enhancement" for customers' web surfing experience. The letters were first reported by a BroadbandReports.com user on Sunday. The pilot program is set to begin next month.

"Browsing the web can become more like flipping through your favorite magazine, where you see ads that are appealing to you and enhance your enjoyment and the utility of the experience," the company's letters read...

Charter plans to test its program in four markets: Ft. Worth, Texas; San Luis Obispo, California; Oxford, Massachusetts, and Newtown, Conneticut, according to Charter Vice President Ted Schremp.

He described the system as capable of noticing when a user visits Honda.com or Toyota's website, for example, so that when the user visits unrelated sites, he or she will be treated to automotive-related ads.

The company is aware of the privacy and transparency concerns, according to Schremp, but believes the program will benefit its customers and its own bottom line.

"The fact that we sent customer notification letters is indicative of the approach we are taking overall," Schremp said. "This is just another example of leveraging the latest technology."

Charter is partnering with a company called NebuAD to build profiles of its users. NebuAD will share the behavioral tracking results with third-party advertising networks like DoubleClick. Users can opt out of the system, but have to give their full name and address to get an opt-out cookie. The process would have to be repeated for every browser on every computer in a home to block the service, and would have to be reset if cookies are ever deleted.

Charter is entering tricky territory with the program, which effectively turns the ISP into the ultimate third-party tracking network. Conventional ad delivery networks like DoubleClick use a third-party cookie to build profiles of users across different websites, but can only track visits to sites that serve the company's ads. In contrast, Charter will know every URL its customers visit.

...cuz if those are the real Sox fans, they can kiss Ozzie's phokking @ss right downtown, and PRINT IT!

Tired of "all the managers in the press box and at home, watching the game on TV and spilling food on themselves," Guillen became the story after a 4-3 loss Sunday to the Toronto Blue Jays, making his feelings known about the perceived treatment he and his organization get in the Windy City.

"Right now, everyone in Chicago is making lineups, 'Call up this guy, call up that guy,'" Guillen said. "If we had 50 people allowed on the roster, we could do that. That's what ticks me off about Chicago fans and Chicago media -- they forget pretty quick. A couple of days ago, we were the [bleep]ing best [bleep] in town, now we're [bleep]."

Asked why that is, Guillen pulled no punches.

"Because maybe the manager is an ass[bleep]," he replied.

Guillen said that the only way the perception of the Sox ever would change is by winning, but even after they did in 2005, it hasn't taken long for it to wear off.

"We won it a couple years ago, and we're horse[bleep]," Guillen said. "The Cubs haven't won in 120 years, and they're the [bleep]ing best. [Bleep] it, we're good. [Bleep] everybody. We're horse[bleep], and we're going to be horse[bleep] the rest of our lives, no matter how many World Series we win. We are the bitch of Chicago. We're the Chicago bitch. We have the worst owner -- the guy's got seven [bleep]ing rings, and he's the [bleep]ing horse[bleep] owner..."

Even ex-Cubs manager Lee Elia wasn't safe from Guillen's wrath Sunday.

"How about the Cubs celebrating that Lee Elia bull[crap]?" Guillen said of the 25th anniversary of Elia's famous 1983 tirade. "How many times I curse people out, I will make a lot of money with my [crap]. I have to keep going because in the future Ozzie [Jr.] will need money and I can say, 'Here, give me money, here's the 10-year anniversary of the time I called [Sun-Times columnist Jay] Mariotti stuff and the time I went on the radio and cursed out Mike North last year.'

"Yeah, we have to celebrate all that [crap], too. But I won't be around for 10 years, believe me."

Dick Cheney to Everyone: Go Fuck Yourself

An enormous asshole or a gigantic asshole??

Why does Dick Cheney hate the American people?

Raddatz: Two-thirds of Americans say it’s not worth fighting, and they’re looking at the value gain versus the cost in American lives, certainly, and Iraqi lives.

Cheney: So?

Raddatz: So — you don’t care what the American people think?

Cheney: No, I think you cannot be blown off course by the fluctuations in the public opinion polls. Think about what would have happened if Abraham Lincoln had paid attention to polls, if they had had polls during the Civil War. He never would have succeeded if he hadn’t had a clear objective, a vision for where he wanted to go, and he was willing to withstand the slings and arrows of the political wars in order to get there. And this President has been very courageous, very consistent, very determined to continue down the course we were on and to achieve our objective.

We have become them

CIA: Waterboarding needed, possibly illegal

It might be illegal, but we're gonna do it anyway. Also, we're not going to investigate ourselves because that would be way too inconvenient. We will continue to torture, bomb and maim until people accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior I mean accept democracy, human rights and transparency as the foundation of good governance.

Sorry Mitt, the terrists have already won.

Congressional Republicans sustain Dumbya's message to poor kids: "Why don't you phokkers just die already."

Republicans Sustain Bush’s S-CHIP Veto

The House [debated] the override of the President’s veto of the revised bipartisan SCHIP (State Children’s Health Insurance Program) bill. The President’s veto on December 12 denied health care to children of hardworking families across America just as the country began experiencing an economic downturn, with families increasingly struggling with the costs of heat, food, gas and health care*.

* Yeah...so? There are plenty of bridges out there for people to live under. Or get that phokker Jimmy Carter to build them one big house in Wyoming or somewhere. What the economy really needs is more give-aways and set-asides for multinational corporations - what don't these phokking poor kids get together and become one of these? Then they would have lots of money, get HYOOOGE tax cuts and wouldn't need "socialized medicine." Phokking kids, while you're at it, get off my damn property!

You know what da answer to dis is, don't you?

2007 Inflation Rate: Up 4.1%
2007 Real Wages Rate: Down 0.9%

Now, you might think: raise salaries for workers and cut them for phokking fat-cat CEOs. Hah, good one! The real answer is: cut taxes for the very weathly. That way, they might invest in new ventures and hire you for that second job you need since you lost 5% of your money last year. Or, they might buy a yacht and help out the yacht makers. And if you're thinking, why not cut taxes on workers 5%? Hah, anudder good one! Uh, where da phokk have you been since Jan. 2001? Probably working 3 jobs and not paying attention. Also, 9/11 changed everything. So, oh yeah, let me speak for Fred Thompson et al. here: go phokk yourselves.

Daley won't use Skyway money for CTA

(AP) — Chicago Mayor Richard Daley says he won't use the $1.8 billion windfall he generated by privatizing the Chicago Skyway to give a boost to Chicago Transit Authority funding.

Gov. Rod Blagojevich has suggested the idea of raiding Skyway funds for the CTA after twice coming up with short-term state funding fixes.

But Daley says it wouldn't be prudent for a city to sell assets to use them for its budget. Daley adds that if the governor wants to generate dollars for state infrastructure projects, he could follow the city's lead and lease the Illinois Tollway to a private contractor.

The problem of transit money has been on the legislative agenda for months. Transit officials say that without additional state aid, they'll be forced to make deep layoffs, service cuts and fare increases on Jan. 20.

Is that all?

U.S. spending on Iraq, Afghanistan will hit $1.6 trillion: report

The wars in Iraq and Afghanistan will have cost the United States at least $1.6 trillion by 2008, according to a report by Congress's Joint Economic Committee that is scheduled to be released Tuesday on Capitol Hill.

...the war efforts would reach $1.6 trillion for the period between 2002 and 2008, roughly $20,900 for each family of four.
(or $83,600 per person)

The committee also said that costs could be expected to rise, reaching up to $3.5 trillion between 2003 and 2017.

The total is roughly double the $804 billion the White House has already requested to finance the missions, the report stated. "The full economic costs of the war to American taxpayers and the overall U.S. economy go well beyond even the immense federal budget costs already reported," it read.

Some conclusions:
1) Maybe Dumbya should have majored in math instead of cheer leading at Yale? And that Harvard MBA? May as well be on used terlet paper.
2) HYOOOGE mistakes were made.
3) More tax cuts are needed for the very wealthy and the military contractors making a killing off the war.
4) You kids who need S-CHIP: go phokk yourselves. Better yet, just die already.
5) And in related news, let us not forget that Pres. Man-Child is a fiscal conservative:

Bush wields veto pen — again

NEW ALBANY, Ind. - President Bush, escalating his budget battle with Congress, on Tuesday vetoed a spending measure for health and education programs prized by congressional Democrats.

Bush hammered Democrats for what he called a tax-and-spend philosophy:

"The Congress now sitting in Washington holds this philosophy," Bush told an audience of business and community leaders. "The majority was elected on a pledge of fiscal responsibility, but so far it's acting like a teenager with a new credit card."

On behalf of President Bush, thank you for your correspondence. (Go phokk yourself.)

We appreciate hearing your views and welcome your suggestions. (About as much as we appreciate hemorrhoids, or welcome talking to people who don't understand how right we are all the time.)

Due to the large volume of e-mail received, the White House cannot respond to every message. (In fact we don't even read them -- why would we need to? [see part about being right all the time above])

Thank you again for taking the time to write. (Now, go phokk yourself.)
