But he's a Hall of Fame manager, right?

3 days rest: is this ever a good idea?

Carlos Zambrano was ineffective working on three days' rest Tuesday, giving up four runs and seven hits over 5 1/3 innings in a loss to the Reds. Zambrano walked three and struck out just one while falling to 1-4 against Cincinnati this season. As tough of an opponent as the Reds have been for him, this was more of a case of Zambrano just not being any good tonight. Manager Lou Piniella might have made a crucial mistake choosing to bring both Big Z and Ted Lilly back on three days' rest this week.

This was surprising to them?

Steve Trachesel's poor performance Sunday has put his spot in the rotation in jeopardy. "We have to think about this," Cubs' manager Lou Piniella said. "I don't know what we're going to do. We'll know in the next couple of days. There's no sense in rushing into any decisions about anything."

clerical error?

Matt Murton is in the Cubs' lineup tonight?

neither did Lou

Cubs optioned catcher-first baseman Jake Fox to Triple-A Iowa.
We're still not sure why he was called up in the first place. Fox had all of two at-bats in eight days with the Cubs.

Lou is confused--SHOCKING!

Manager Lou Piniella mistakenly told the media that Kerry Wood's bullpen session on Tuesday was postponed, when it actually did take place prior to the rainstorm. Wood reportedly pitched okay during the session and will continue his rehab.
