This was surprising to them?

Steve Trachesel's poor performance Sunday has put his spot in the rotation in jeopardy. "We have to think about this," Cubs' manager Lou Piniella said. "I don't know what we're going to do. We'll know in the next couple of days. There's no sense in rushing into any decisions about anything."

HA HA ... well, he ia a proven veteran...

Steve Trachsel will remain the rotation and start Thursday against the Astros on three days' rest.
The Cubs wanted to hold Carlos Zambrano back to face St. Louis on Friday. Trachsel only threw two innings Sunday, so he shouldn't have much trouble bouncing back. Of course, that doesn't mean he'll be any good.
