CTA To Commuters: Misery Is Coming
Huberman: 'We Will Be Leaving People, Literally, On The Curb'

(CBS) CHICAGO CTA President Ron Huberman said when fare hikes and service cuts kick in later this month, commuters will be in for a dosage of misery.

The CTA must make good on threats of a doomsday scenario because the Illinois General Assembly failed to come up with funding. A proposed sales tax hike to offset deficits at the CTA failed in the state House on Tuesday.

"The impact of that will be very severe," said CTA President Ron Huberman. "People will see much greater congestion. They will find it much harder to get to work. We will be leaving people, literally, on the curb."

Starting Sept. 17, CTA cash riders will to see their normal $2 fares rise to $2.50 for buses and 'L' trains. During morning and evening rush hours on the 'L,' that fare will cost an extra 50 cents, making it $3 to ride. Forty bus routes will also be cut.

The CTA is trying in advance to ease the pain by waiving the $5 purchasing fee for the Chicago Card and Chicago Card Plus debit cards until Oct. 31.

I didn't check out the slideshows that came with the story, but they sound like they could be fun...

Ya gotta love the CTA bureucrats: they hate you and don't care who knows it. I respect dat. If only Dumbya had been this honest: "For the next eight years while I'm president, everything is going to suck...AND it's going to cost everyone more, especially those poor fuckers. CEO's and corporations will get a tax break, naturally, while everyone else is totally, totally FUCKED. You won't even have a fucking curb to be left by. Oh yeah, plenty of wars and dead people, too. I see dead people, and i love them. OH MY GOD IS IT EVER GOING TO TOTALLY SUCK TO BE LIVING HERE. And then--here's the funny part--when all the bills come due AFTER i leave office, you'll have a nice recession to look forward to, fuckers. Also, God willing, there will be plenty of natural disasters, like massive hurricanes and forest fires. I hate people, especially the poor folk, and wish everyone was dead. Eight years, i tell ya, it's going to be a hoot."

Of course the CTA has no choice because the state government is run by morons who can't figure out that everyone benefits from mass transit and therefore everyone should pay for it.
