"Beginning no later than November 2008 to the present, in Cook County, in the Northern District of Illinois, defendants ROD R. BLAGOJEVICH and JOHN HARRIS, being agents of the State of Illinois, a State government which during a one-year period, beginning January 1, 2008 and continuing to the present, received federal benefits in excess of $10,000, corruptly solicited and demanded a thing of value, namely, the firing of certain Chicago Tribune editorial members responsible for widely-circulated editorials critical of ROD R. BLAGOJEVICH, intending to be influenced and rewarded in connection with business and transactions of the State of Illinois involving a thing of value of $5,000 or more, namely, the provision of millions of dollars in financial assistance by the State of Illinois, including through the Illinois Finance Authority, an agency of the State of Illinois, to the Tribune Company involving the Wrigley Field baseball stadium; in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Sections 666(a)(1)(B) and 2."

Woops!

Damn, you beat me to it. He's about to become someone's blagojevich.

"Defendants ROD BLAGOJEVICH and JOHN HARRIS, together with
others, attempted to use ROD BLAGOJEVICH’s authority to appoint a United States Senator for the purpose of obtaining personal benefits for ROD BLAGOJEVICH, including, among other things, appointment as Secretary of Health & Human Services in the President-elect’s administration..."

Mistakes were made.

If this guy seriously believed he had a snowball's chance in hell of coming within a meeellliion miles of Obama ever wanting his name even mentioned in connection with his Cabinet, he is udderly, irretrievably unhinged.

I saw in one of the releases today that he thought that he could make a presidential run in 2016.

k-mad said...

If so, that is breathlessly disconnected.

"If I don’t get what I want and I’m not satisfied with it, then I’ll just take the Senate seat myself," the governor said in recorded conversation, prosecutors said.

What a douchenozzle.

I wonder what provisions they'll make for keeping his feeding tube inserted?

I hope they didn't muss his hair when they put him in the squad car.

He might be looking at a long string of bad hair days.

"The tapes reveal a two-term governor who no longer wants his job (problem solved! Ed.), badly wants cash (that could be a problem - Ed.) and is determined to leverage a financial benefit out of his appointment powers.

He also appears to think little of the president-elect, whom he calls a "motherf***er" at one point.

'F**k him,' Blagjoveich says of Obama during a lengthy call with top aides and his wife recorded on November 10th, 'For nothing? F**k him.'" (And he'll be asking for a pardon in 2016? PHOKK HIM... Ed.)

The public is reminded that a complaint contains only charges and is not evidence of guilt. The defendants are presumed innocent and are entitled to a fair trial at which the government has the burden of proving guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

Fair trial? Phokk him...

"Corruption Crime Spree..." new team name?

ROD BLAGOJEVICH stated that he is "struggling" financially and does "not want to be Governor for the next two years..."

See? Everyone wins.

k-mad said...

Whoever the next gubnor is, should we indict him/her right after the swearing in to save time?

Wow K-Mad, tell us how you really feel. Dis one really touched one of those nerves usually reserved for Smiff didn't it? Blago for now is innocent. But it sure is going to be fun proving him guilty.

k-mad said...

My nerves have been known to be touchy.

A downside: this does deprive us of the spectacle of Lisa Madigan pounding him within an inch of his life in the 2010 primary.

"ROD BLAGOJEVICH has spent significant time weighing the option of appointing himself to the open Senate seat, and has expressed a variety of reasons for doing so, including frustration at being “stuck” as governor, a belief that he will be able to obtain greater resources if he is indicted as a sitting Senator as opposed to a sitting governor, and a desire to remake his image in consideration of a possible run for President in 2016, avoid impeachment by the Illinois legislature, make corporate contacts that would be of value to him after leaving public office, facilitate his wife’s employment as a lobbyist, and assist in generating speaking fees should he decide to leave public office."

But except for impeachment, “there is no way to remove the governor against his will,” said John Marshall School of Law professor Ann Lousin, an expert on the Illinois Constitution. “The only reason would be if the governor is mentally impaired (for example, due to accident or stroke) and can’t sign anything.” The constitution and the Illinois Governor Succession Act refer to “disability” or “temporary disability” of the governor as a reason for the lieutenant governor to become acting governor.

He thought he could get elected REZZZZIDUNCE in 2016 - is that not mentally impaired enough?
