Justin Upton made his big league debut Thursday against the Padres, entering the game in the eighth inning as a defensive replacement.
Upton played right field for an inning and then fouled out leading off the ninth inning in his lone at-bat. He figures to play regularly in right field going forward with Carlos Quentin on the disabled list, but Jeff DaVanon started there Thursday.
