Is someone playing Taps? Decker?

Free agent Greg Maddux will announce his retirement Monday at the baseball winter meetings in Las Vegas. The future first-ballot Hall of Famer makes his home in Vegas, so he doesn't have far to go. Agent Scott Boras confirmed the decision on Friday.

Friendster informs me - it's Decker's Birthday!

And if you've really got the Decker mojo working today... [R-rated - not for prudes like Fung]

Was Decker in town and not tell me?

It's another Baseball Prospectus Ballpark Feed, and this time we're in our nation's capital on June 23rd. Come hear Christina Kahrl, Will Carroll, Steven Goldman, and Marc Normandin join Stan Kasten for a conversation about the game, and then stay for interleague action between the Nationals and the Indians. Seating is limited (~100), so act now. Tickets are $20 each, which includes: an upper view box seat, a food voucher good at any RFK concession stand, and pregame entry to the meeting room session with Kasten and the BP crew. The meeting starts at 5:00 pm sharp, so meet at Gate F at 4:30 pm; it will run for about an hour.

All Too Timely: MLB Mechanics

My third (and hopefully not final) piece for MLB.com’s “Mechanics of Baseball” series is up and available. This one is very timely; we shot these back just before the start of the season and the five pitchers we picked have all missed at least one game so far. I hate being right about this sort of thing.

"Most of the damage indicates a slow wearing rather than any significant trauma, which puts the blame more on Dusty Baker than anyone else...."
