Mark Gonzalez of the Chicago Tribune reports that the Blue Jays will send right-hander Zach Stewart to the White Sox along with Jason Frasor in the trade for Edwin Jackson and Mark Teahen (who is AWFUL).
This deal is essentially a salary dump for the White Sox, but Stewart certainly has value. The 24-year-old right-hander made his major league debut last month and has a 4.20 ERA and 74/24 K/BB ratio over 16 starts with Double-A New Hampshire this season. He could be a potential set-up man or closer if he doesn't make it as a starter.

The White Sox have benched struggling center fielder Alex Rios.
The White Sox have finally run out of patience with Rios, who is batting just .208/.255/.300 with six homers and a .555 OPS over 384 plate appearances this season. Alejandro De Aza was called up from the minors on Wednesday and will start in center field for the interim. It's in Chicago's best interest for Rios to figure things out, though, as he is still owed $12 million next season, $12.5 million in 2013 and 2014 and $13.5 million or a $1 million buyout in 2015. (DOH!)

White Sox claimed outfielder Alex Rios off waivers from the Blue Jays.
Rios, 28, is expected to join the White Sox Tuesday in Seattle. He'll bring a .264/.317/.427 batting line, 14 home runs, 62 RBI and a long-term contract worth over $60 million. The outfielder will have to battle for playing time in Chicago this season. But if the club lets impending free agent Jermaine Dye walk this winter, Rios could be the everyday right fielder in 2010.

Josh Fields earned the ire of manager Ozzie Guillen after saying that he wanted answers from the organization about his future.

"Oh, you better be careful for what you say and what you wish," said Guillen "It's not my fault that we brought [Gordon] Beckham here. If [GM] Kenny [Williams] brought Beckham here, it's because Josh Fields was not doing his job. Am I wrong?"

White Sox acquired outfielder Nick Swisher from the Athletics for LHP Gio Gonzalez, outfielder Ryan Sweeney and RHP Fautino De Los Santos. It's going to be interesting to see how the White Sox try to fit these pieces together. If they're willing to use Swisher in center field, they're improving their lineup immensely with the deal, though it's at a steep cost in the team's top two pitching prospects and the still promising Sweeney. If they're doing it with the idea of using Swisher in left field, leaving no room for Carlos Quentin, then the deal could prove to be a major bust. We're guessing they'll pencil him into center for now but continue to look for alternatives. Either way, Swisher gets a nice upgrade in fantasy value with the switch to the AL's best home run park. He'll be a threat to hit 35-40, especially if the White Sox are smart enough to hit him second.

MLB radio is reporting that the White Sox will acquire Carlos Quentin from the Diamondbacks for Chris Carter. We hope the Diamondbacks are getting a quality pitching prospect in return as well. Quentin's stock is down, especially following shoulder surgery, but he's still a fine bet to have a long career as a regular corner outfielder. Carter, who shares the same name as the first baseman the Diamondbacks traded to Boston in the three-team Wily Mo Pena deal, hit .291/.383/.522 as a 20-year-old in low-A ball last season.
MLB.com confirms that the Diamondbacks are trading Carlos Quentin to the White Sox for first baseman Chris Carter. It doesn't sound like any other players are involved in the deal set to be announced this afternoon.

If true, i would have to say dis is a shteal for Kill Kenny. I would say the D-Backs must have an abundance of OFs, but they were playing Jeff Salazar in the playoffs for chrissakes...

Kill Kenny: Winner or Loser?

White Sox acquired SS Orlando Cabrera from Angels in exchange for RHP Jon Garland.

An odd trade, because the White Sox already re-signed Juan Uribe and the Angels don't have a clear replacement for Cabrera unless they think that Erick Aybar is ready. The White Sox pick up an excellent defender who batted .301/.345/.397 in 155 games for the Angels in 2007, giving them a huge upgrade over Uribe. A free agent after 2008, Cabrera will make $9 million in the final season of his contract. Uribe could slide to second base or fill a utility role, but another trade is possible given that the White Sox now need pitching.

White Sox declined outfielder Darin Erstad's $3.5 million club option for 2008. Some upgrade over Brian Anderson that Erstad was. The 33-year-old hit .248/.310/.335 to finish with a sub-700 OPS for the third straight year and the fifth time in seven seasons. He gets a $250,000 buyout as he becomes a free agent.
