Cuban responds, "Phokk the refs!"
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Mark Cuban, owner of the Dallas Mavericks professional basketball team, was charged with insider trading in shares of Mamma.com Inc, an Internet search engine firm, the Securities and Exchange Commission said on Monday.
Cuban, one of the five finalists to buy the Chicago Cubs pro baseball team, faces civil charges by acting on nonpublic information and selling shares of Mamma.com to avoid more than $750,000 in losses, the SEC alleged.
According to the SEC, Mamma.com invited Cuban to participate in a stock offering that would be conducted at a discount to the market price after he agreed to keep the information confidential.
However, within hours of receiving information, Cuban called his broker and told him to sell his entire position in the company, the SEC alleged.
When the offering was publicly announced, Mamma.com's stock price dropped 9.3 percent from the prior day's closing price.
Calls to Cuban's lawyers were not immediately returned.
Mamma.com has since changed its name to Copernic Inc.

Is a pieds-a-terre included?
Its creators admit it is the ultimate in decadence: a $175 hamburger.
The Wall Street Burger Shoppe just raised its price from $150 to assure its designation as the costliest burger in the city as determined by Pocket Change, an online newsletter about the most expensive things in New York.
"Wall Street has good days and bad days. We wanted to have the everyday burger (for $4) ... and then something special if you really have a good day on Wall Street," said co-owner Heather Tierney.
The burger, created by chef and co-owner Kevin O'Connell, seeks to justify its price with a Kobe beef patty, lots of black truffles, seared foie gras, aged Gruyere cheese, wild mushrooms and flecks of gold leaf on a brioche bun.
The eatery sells 20 or 25 per month in the fine dining room upstairs versus hundreds of $4 burgers each day at the diner counter downstairs, Tierney said.
Pocket Change previously designated the double truffle burger at Daniel Boulud's DB Bistro Moderne as the most expensive at $120, and the Burger Shoppe set out to top that.
Boulud's creation -- available only during black truffle season from December to March -- rose to $150 this past season, so the Burger Shoppe raised its price on Monday to $175.
"Our burger is not about the price," said Georgette Farkas, a Boulud spokeswoman. "If you are making something concerned only about the price, you are off in the wrong direction."
Without truffles, Boulud's burger costs $32. It has a ground sirloin patty stuffed with red wine braised short ribs.
O'Connell said the Burger Shoppe was "finding the ultimate expression of each one of the ingredients."
"The concept was like a mushroom-bacon-Swiss cheese burger, which is my favorite sort of burger," he said.
The burger comes with golden truffle mayonnaise, Belgian-style fries and a mixed greens and tomato salad. O'Connell pairs the dish with many fine wines, a lager or a toasted brown beer, or ginger ale.

Golf, by George Carlin
I am getting tired, really getting tired of these golfing cocksuckers in their green pants and their yellow pants and their orange pants, and their precious little hats and their cute little golf carts.
It is time to reclaim the golf courses from the wealthy and turn them over to the homeless. Golf is an arrogant, elitist game and it takes up entirely too much room in this country.
It is an arrogant on its very design alone. Just the design of the game speaks of arrogance. Think of how big a golf course is. The ball is that fucking big! What do these pin-headed pricks need with all that land? There are 17,000 golf courses in America. They average over 150 acres a piece. That’s 3 million-plus acres; 4,820 square miles. You could build two Rhode Islands and a Delaware for the homeless on the land currently being wasted on this meaningless, mindless, arrogant, elitist, racist — there’s another thing: the only blacks you’ll find in country clubs are carrying trays — and a boring game. Boring game for boring people. Have you ever watched golf on television? It’s like watching flies fuck.
And a mindless game, mindless. Think of the intellect it must take to draw pleasure from this activity: hitting a ball with a crooked stick, and then walking after it! And then hitting it again! I say, “Pick it up asshole, you’re lucky you found the fucking thing. Put it in your pocket and go home, you’re a winner. You’re a winner — you found it!”
No, no chance of that happening. “Dorko” in the plaid knickers is going to hit it again and walk some more. Let these rich cocksuckers play miniature golf. Let him fuck with a windmill for an hour and a half or so, see if there’s really any skill among these people.
I know there are some people who play golf who don’t consider themselves rich. Fuck ‘em! And shame on them for engaging in an arrogant, elitist past time.

A bunch of rich phokks playing golf? Why yes, that is more important than, oh, final exams...
They are also encouraging staff to work from home, or go on vacation... Well, i am told that Tiger owns Torrey Pines, and Tiger winning another major ranks #1 on the list of Current Important Things: 1) Tiger winning another major 2) The Economy 3) Gas Prices 4) American Idol 5) War in Iraq. So we all have to sacrifice during Tigertime. But if he loses to, oh, some white schmuck from South Africa again, don't even bother showing up for the British Open, Eldrick...
SUBJECT: U.S. Open and Spring Quarter Final Examinations
As you may know, the U.S. Open Golf Tournament will be held at the Torrey Pines Golf Course the week of June 9 through June 15, the same week that Spring Quarter final examinations are scheduled. The traffic impact on the campus, and on all who work and attend here, will be very significant. For more information, see the March 21st Campus Notice from UC San Diego Transportation and Parking Services, http://adminrecords.ucsd.edu/Notices/2008/2008-3-21-1.html).
Please be aware of the following regarding Spring Quarter final exams:
* In-class final exams must be delivered as scheduled, according to the Registrar's Schedule of Final Exams (http://blink.ucsd.edu/Blink/External/Topics/Policy/0,1162,18016,00.html).
* Instructors are expected to administer all in-class final exams on the scheduled date and time, regardless of the Tournament's impact on the campus.
* Instructors may opt to require a take-home final exam in place of the in-class final. If so, the take-home final exam cannot be due prior to the scheduled date and time of the in-class final exam. On a class-wide basis, electronic submission by students of completed final exams is not acceptable.
* Instructors may, but are not required to, accommodate requests for alternate exam dates during final exam week.
* No instructor may administer a final exam before final exam week. (See Academic Senate Policy on Final Exams,
http://www-senate.ucsd.edu/committees/cep/policychanges/midterm.htm.)
* Instructors may not assign an Incomplete grade because a student missed an in-class final exam due to traffic, lack of parking spaces, etc. (See Academic Senate Regulation on Incompletes, http://www-senate.ucsd.edu/manual/Regulations/PartI/500.htm#500b).
* The responsibilities of Teaching Assistants continue as usual during final exam week.
The coincidence of the U.S. Open and finals week is unquestionably very inconvenient. But, with thoughtful planning and careful adherence to the above standards, the UC San Diego community, working together, can prevent any disruption of our academic enterprise. Your cooperation in this effort is important and greatly appreciated. And Kick Ass, Tiger!!

What Happens When It Turns Out "The Man" Is Woodchuck Smart?
Why is it government that's always called short-sighted and ignorant? Bureaucratic, ok, and sometimes that sucks, but how is this any better? It's not. These men are fucking idiots and they are breaking things. They should not be allowed near these things, and many of them should be in jail. And all of them should get a good swift kick through the ass:
"Not a week goes by that the Fed doesn’t inaugurate a new way to provide liquidity — meaning money — to the financial system. Bear Stearns isn’t enormous. It doesn’t take deposits from the public. Yet the Fed believed that letting it implode could unleash a domino effect among other banks, and the Fed provided a $30 billion guarantee for JPMorgan to snap it up.
Compared to the cold shoulder given to struggling homeowners, the cash and attention lavished by the government on the nation’s financial titans provides telling insight into the priorities of the Bush administration. It’s not simply a matter of fairness, though. The Fed is probably right to be doing all it can think of to avoid worse damage than the economy is already suffering. But if the objective is to encourage prudent banking and keep Wall Street’s wizards from periodically driving financial markets over the cliff, it is imperative to devise a remuneration system for bankers that puts more of their skin in the game.
Financiers, of course, dispute that they are being insufficiently penalized. “I received no bonus for 2007, no severance pay, no golden parachute,” E. Stanley O’Neal, the former chief executive of Merrill Lynch, told a House committee recently. That doesn’t seem like much of a blow to Mr. O’Neal, who was removed earlier this year following gargantuan subprime-related losses."

Sam Zell: a HYOOOGE @$$hole or the HYOOOGEST @$$hole?
But don’t tell that to media mogul Sam Zell, new owner of The Tribune Co. Guess who he blames for the state of the economy?….Wait for it….Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama. Seriously.
"Obviously what we have going on is an attempt to create a self-fulfilling prophecy," said Zell, chairman of Equity Investments Group and owner of the Chicago Cubs, Chicago Tribune, Los Angeles Times and other companies. "We have two Democratic candidates who are vying with each other to describe the economic situation worse."
Yep, no way it could be the ding-a-ling who's been in the White House for the last 7 years...

$6.8 Million Vanity Plate
The best comment from the story I just hypertexted at Digg from "Fixty":
Not even walking around everywhere with a bluetooth earpiece says douchbag as loudly as having a vanity plate. So to the soon-to-be proud owner of vanity plate numero uno all I can say is "yes, indeed you are number one... douche".

You know what da answer to dis is, don't you?
2007 Real Wages Rate: Down 0.9%
Now, you might think: raise salaries for workers and cut them for phokking fat-cat CEOs. Hah, good one! The real answer is: cut taxes for the very weathly. That way, they might invest in new ventures and hire you for that second job you need since you lost 5% of your money last year. Or, they might buy a yacht and help out the yacht makers. And if you're thinking, why not cut taxes on workers 5%? Hah, anudder good one! Uh, where da phokk have you been since Jan. 2001? Probably working 3 jobs and not paying attention. Also, 9/11 changed everything. So, oh yeah, let me speak for Fred Thompson et al. here: go phokk yourselves.

"Violence in Kenya raises questions for those seeking safari trips"
- headline from the New York Times today.
American travelers were very concerned about the various tribal angers that seem to be boiling over as a result of a presidential election that was stolen and expressed solidarity with the oppressed of any nation at any time, as noted in the article below:
After seeing such images, Andrea Macari, a clinical psychologist from Great Neck, N.Y., rerouted her $30,000 two-week trip to Africa to avoid traveling in Kenya. Originally, Ms. Macari and her husband, Dylan Mitchell, were scheduled to use Nairobi as a jumping-off place to Rwanda for gorilla tracking before heading back to Kenya for a safari. Now the couple is bypassing Kenya completely by flying into Uganda, connecting to Rwanda and taking charter flights to get around. They have replaced their Kenyan safari with a stay at a tented camp in the Serengeti in Tanzania.
“I’m not going on a vacation to be anxious all the time for my safety,” said Ms. Macari, who departed for her trip without knowing if she would get a refund for the canceled Kenya safari.
Lisa Gramlich, a pediatric anesthesiologist from Chicago, who left for Kenya with three friends on Jan. 7, also took precautions. Two of the travelers who planned to take a public bus to Kilimanjaro will now fly there. And instead of shopping and sightseeing in Nairobi, Ms. Gramlich plans to stay on the grounds of her resort while she is in the capital. In a situation like this, she said, “the likelihood of becoming a victim of robbery or something becomes just a little more heightened.”
