The Illinois Way

Remember that payroll tax reduction we got as a result of Obama "compromising" and the Republicans "winning"? Well, guess what? Da State Dat we live in has decided to take all dat money and then some! Allegedly, there's some hyooooooge budget hole (left by the departure of Bobby Jenks, no doubt) they have to fill, and Quinny's decided the only way to fill it is with more tax money. But just like the politicians in da beltway, dey felt that they shouldn't offend the rich by taxing them more. No, let's just regressively tax everyone more. Clearly they're trying to make Blago's comeback that much easier. And there Corporal thought he was moving AWAY from Taxachussetts!

Pat Quinn, the next gov (soon?): generally a good guy, but he really phokked us up in 1980

It was his petition drive that ended cumulative voting, which had succeeded in electing "ballot-rigging insiders" like, oh, Paul Simon and Abner Mikva. Under that system we had Republicans elected in even the most Democratic districts, Democrats elected in even the most Republican districts, moderates in both parties who were capable of working together. Since then all we've had are monkey-feces-hurling cronies.

If the sun came up today, well...

...Jim Oberweis must be losing another election in Illinois:

Major Democratic Victory - Hastert’s IL Seat Goes To Bill Foster

What's next for Jimbo? Is "ice cream truck driver" an elected position anywhere?

Face it, no one likes you. Dick.

Romney: Quitter

The one ad he kept running out here was about how different he is from Hillary Clinton (maybe that's why she did so well here?). Willard seemed to be running his campaign in reverse - it was if he had already won the Republican nomination and was running against Hillary, who had won the Democratic nomination. I know that for many conservatives, just saying "Hillary Clinton" causes them to grow horns and a third eyeball, but MITT YOU WEREN'T RUNNING AGAINST HER. How about running some ads about McCain being a flip-flopper instead of a "straight talker". Or that fact that he said he doesn't know anything about the economy. Or the fact that he cozies upto and makes deals with pinko commies like Feingold and Ed Kennedy. Nope, he stuck with how "Hillary-care" was going to send everyone to the grave. What a maroon. And this guy made millions as a bidnessman? It must not be very hard then.

Oh, and this is priceless...

Romney at today's CPAC Wingnut Conference: ”If I fight on in my campaign, all the way to the convention, I would forestall the launch of a national campaign and make it more likely that Senator Clinton or Obama would win. And in this time of war, I simply cannot let my campaign, be a part of aiding a surrender to terror.”

Doctor to seek GOP nomination to run against Durbin

(Crain’s) — A La Grange physician on Wednesday is slated to become the first significant opponent to the re-election of U.S. Sen. Richard Durbin.

Steve Sauerberg, a family-practice doctor who will be making his first run for public office, is set to officially announce his candidacy for the GOP nomination to run against Mr. Durbin, the Senate’s second-ranking Democrat...
