Rick Perry - Savoring the Dumbering

His campaign is probably almost over, so we must cherish these golden nuggets of inanity (new team name?) while they're still coming.

"When you have a country [Turkey] that is being ruled by what many would perceive to be Islamic terrorists, when you start seeing that type of activity against their own citizens, then yes, not only is it time for us to have a conversation about whether or not they belong to be in NATO, but it's time for the United States, when we look at their foreign aid, to go to zero with it."

— Rick Perry

This was the most jaw-dropping statement of the night.

The ruling party of Turkey is moderately Islamic, but it generally has not interfered with the country’s secular traditions. While Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton has prodded the leadership about its commitment to media freedoms, few analysts — if any — would say the Turkish leadership is made up of "Islamic terrorists." We really have no idea what Perry is talking about.

As for foreign aid, Turkey is a wealthy country that already gets virtually no foreign aid from the United States. The State Department this year made a request for about $5 million, which was earmarked for peace-keeping and security operations — not what one could consider traditional "foreign aid."

The Whatever-I-Said, I-Sure-As-Hell-Didn't-Mean-It Express rolls on

The Straight Talk Train Wreck

But watching John McCain's poll numbers stay strangely resilient despite the virtual disintegration of his campaign, I feel compelled to share a cautionary tale of my own firsthand experience with the Straight-Talk Express. That hell-bent freight train rolled over me a couple years ago and I haven't felt the same since.
. . .

"If you don't mind my asking," I said, "are you suggesting there are things Senator McCain will say to a British audience that he isn't comfortable saying to the American people?"Needless to say, this didn't help matters. But I wasn't trying to be snide. My question was just the logical extension of what Salter had intimated. But it clearly touched a nerve. He became enraged and, after hanging up, sought to make good on his threat to tarnish my name and career.

"I'll be here all week..."

Huckabee at NRA Meeting: Jokes about shooting presidential candidates are funny!

During a speech before the National Rifle Association convention Friday afternoon in Louisville, Kentucky, former Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee — who has endorsed presumptive GOP nominee John McCain — joked that an unexpected offstage noise was Democrat Barack Obama looking to avoid a gunman.

“That was Barack Obama, he just tripped off a chair, he’s getting ready to speak,” said the former Arkansas governor, to audience laughter. “Somebody aimed a gun at him and he dove for the floor.”

this could be his day!

A reminder -- Alan Keyes is sort of running.

"Click to hear Terri laughing" -- is she laughing at his campaign?

Who is the biggest @$$HOLE Republican running?

Smiff ranks 'em:

1) Fred Thompson - I really HATE this asshole. Every time he opens his mouth i want to pound his face into a bloody pulp.
2) 9/11 - He's got his own t-shirt.
3) Mitt Romney - Seems the most hated by the other candidates, and if the other assholes hate you most - that should tell us something. And his real first name is Willard.
4) John McCain - He's old and ornery. I can see it, "You damn kids, get off my property!"
5) Ron Paul - Appears rather non-offensive, but did anyone see the sickening racist comments in the newsletter he used to publish? Even though it was HIS newsletter, he said he didn't write that stuff. Or edit it out, apparently...
6) Mike Huckabee - Seems almost human for a Repoop.

If i included non-factors Duncan Hunter and Alan Keyes, it would be a three-way tussle for 3rd place with Mutt. Unfortunely, you don't see enough of these two clowns to truly measure how big of assholes they are.

Huckster: wid da tarrists?

Romney Slams Huckabee, Defends Bush’s Foreign Policy

"I may not be the expert that some people are on foreign policy, but I did stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night."

I would like to have a beer with Fred Thompson

From the Washington Post, 12/12/07:

His 87-year-old mother's advice persuaded him to reject the new intelligence report that Iran has suspended its nuclear program. "Remember whatcha mama told ya," he says. If somethin' appears to be too good to be true, it probably is." Is it possible to be too folksy? Thompson seems determined to find out.

Mike Huckabee...

a "Christian goofball of the highest order..."

Huckabee has also been accused of paying himself as a consultant to his own senatorial campaign, allowing special interests to pay for airline tickets for his daughter, receiving a canoe from a Coke bottler and — hilariously, if you're wont to laugh at the sheer small-town gauche greediness of it all — setting up a "wedding registry" at Target and Dillard's department stores so citizens could lavish the Huckabees with gifts as they renewed their marriage vows. The long list of desired goodies included twenty-four settings of Lenox "Holiday Nouveau" china, a KitchenAid mixer and a "Jack La Lanne power juicer." If you didn't want to pick out something yourself, the Huckabees were glad to take straight cash. "Message from the couple," the registry noted. "Target GiftCards are welcome."

no stopping The Huckster

First Chuck Norris, then Ted Nugent, now this...

Ric Flair: "Mike Huckabee is the Man, Whooooo!"
Former World Heavyweight Champion 'Nature Boy' to Officially Endorse Huckabee on Saturday before Clemson-Carolina Game

"I am honored to have the support of Ric Flair. I'm a huge fan of the Nature Boy. My children grew up watching him and the Four Horseman. Most of all, I look forward to having Nature Boy join me on the campaign trail at the South Carolina-Clemson game this weekend. Ric's endorsement will help us put a figure four leg lock on our opponents."

Now, i wonder if this troika of morons, like Huckabee, who is a creationist and doesn't believe in evolution, think these things came from outer space?

Fossil found of world's biggest bug

British scientists have stumbled across a fossilized claw, part of an ancient sea scorpion, that is of such large proportion it would make the entire creature the biggest bug ever. How big? Bigger than you, and at 8 feet long as big as some Smart cars. The discovery in 390-million-year-old rocks suggests that spiders, insects, crabs and similar creatures were far larger in the past than previously thought, said Simon Braddy, a University of Bristol paleontologist and one of the study's three authors. “This is an amazing discovery,” he said Tuesday. “We have known for some time that the fossil record yields monster millipedes, super-sized scorpions, colossal cockroaches, and jumbo dragonflies. But we never realized until now just how big some of these ancient creepy-crawlies were,” he said.

Shouldn't there be an IQ test to run for president?

Tancredo: Irrational Fear More Important Than Healthcare, Education or Anything

Tancredo: If you are going to ask people to actually vote for you for President of the United States of America, you’d better tell them what you are going to do about this problem, because I’m telling you it supercedes all other … It’s more important than healthcare. It’s more important than education policy. It’s more important than trade. It’s more important than anything, because what does all of that matter if you do not do what is necessary to protect this country?

next in line if/when Mitt-fer-brainzz and Ru(9/11)dy flame out: annudder idiot

Huckabee's Belief in Adam and Eve

Mike Huckabee’s views on how life began came up again in a recent interview the Republican candidate had with Bill O’Reilly, a talk-show host on Fox News.

According to this account in The Washington Post, Mr. Huckabee, a former governor of Arkansas, told Mr. O’Reilly he has no reason to doubt that Adam and Eve were real people. He also reiterated that, even though he is not sure of the details of how it unfolded, he does believe God created humans.

...

The item quotes Bill Maher, a talk-show host on HBO, who argued in an interview with Mr. Huckabee that the topic was relevant: “If someone believes that the earth is 6,000 years old, when every scientist in the world knows it’s billions of years old, why shouldn’t I take that into account when I’m assessing the rationality of someone I’m going to put in the highest office in the land?”

The Post also looks at how Dennis J. Kucinich’s comments this week about having an encounter with a UFO may or may not fit into this discussion.
