Oops! He Did It Again: McCain Confuses Iran/al Qaeda Link In Speech Marking 5th Anniversary of Iraqi Invasion

Sen. John McCain has done it again.
For the third time in two days, the Arizona Republican has pushed the definitively false statement that the terrorist group Al-Qaeda was getting assistance from Iran, even though he was publicly ridiculed for the same false assertion on Tuesday.
This time,
in a statement from his campaign honoring the fifth year anniversary of the war, McCain wrote:
“Today in Iraq, America and our allies stand on the precipice of winning a major victory against radical Islamic extremism. The security gains over the past year have been dramatic and undeniable. Al Qaeda and Shia extremists — with support from external powers such as Iran — are on the run but not defeated.”
On Tuesday, the senator, appearing in Israel, made a nearly identical assertion that al-Qaeda was leaving Iraq to retool and regroup in Iran.

Countdown’s Worst Persons: Olbermann Murdoch & McSame

Last, and by no means least, Senator John McCain takes the gold for making a fool of himself by claiming that Iran was training al Qaeda members in Iran, and sending them into Iraq. (not once, but thrice) Unfortunately for Grandpa McCain, he was mistaken and had to be reminded by Joe Lieberman that Iran was NOT training members of al Qaeda.

Olbermann: “No wonder McCain’s talking about 100 years in Iraq. It’ll take him that long just to figure out what’s going on there!”

McCain Doesn’t Know Who We’re Fighting In Iraq

Pressed to elaborate, McCain said it was “common knowledge and has been reported in the media that al-Qaeda is going back into Iran and receiving training and are coming back into Iraq from Iran, that’s well known. And it’s unfortunate.” A few moments later, Sen. Joseph Lieberman, standing just behind McCain, stepped forward and whispered in the presidential candidate’s ear. McCain then said: “I’m sorry, the Iranians are training extremists, not al-Qaeda.”

what being a weatherman in San Diego does to your brain

"It is the greatest scam in history. I am amazed, appalled and highly offended by it. Global Warming; It is a SCAM. ... I have read dozens of scientific papers. I have talked with numerous scientists. I have studied. I have thought about it. I know I am correct.*"
-- The Weather Channel founder and long-time "TV weatherman" John Coleman, 11/7/07

Like being a weatherfraudster in the Land Without Weather isn't the biggest scammiest fraud of all time...

add this to Bud Selig's neverending list of idiocies

Carlos Silva, who could command north of $32 million for four years as a free agent this winter, won't net the Twins any compensation under the newly unveiled Elias rankings. The same goes for Kyle Lohse and the Phillies. We've railed against them for years and we'll do it again: the Elias rankings are a complete joke and it's in everyone's best interests to base free-agent compensation off another system. It's ludicrous that Silva and Lohse don't qualify, yet Troy Percival, who pitched 40 innings during the two years the rankings cover, is a Type B free agent, meaning he could net the Cardinals a supplemental first-round pick. One more example of the idiocy: Robinson Cano and Mike Lowell are rated above Alex Rodriguez among infielders (A-Rod is still a Type A, of course).

compassionate conservatism: an example

G-Dumb after visiting with wounded veterans from the Amputee Care Center of Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio on 1/1/06:

"As you can possibly see, I have an injury myself--not here at the hospital, but in combat with a cedar. I eventually won. The cedar gave me a little scratch."

George Bush thinks Nelson Mandela is dead and Saddam Hussein killed him?!?!

UPDATE: Apparently, Dumbya was just making a bad analogy here. Or was he? Hard to tell when you're dealing with an idiot as big as he is. I stand by it - Bush thinks that Mandela is an Iraqi and Saddam had him killed. And, of course, if we gave a shit about brutal tyrants we wouldn't have supported Saddam throught the 1980's. Funny sidebar: Dick "Dick" (Dick) Cheney considered Mandela a terrorist. Of course, so did most HYOOOGE amoral a$$holes who didn't find apartheid objectionable.

I mean, there have been hundreds, maybe thousands, of whoppers, but this one may ultimately be the winner:

GWB: Saddam killed Mandelas

Part of the reason why there is not this instant democracy in Iraq is because people are still recovering from Saddam Hussein’s brutal rule. I thought an interesting comment was made when somebody said to me, I heard somebody say, where’s Mandela? Well, Mandela is dead, because Saddam Hussein killed all the Mandelas. He was a brutal tyrant that divided people up and split families, and people are recovering from this. So there’s a psychological recovery that is taking place. And it’s hard work for them. And I understand it’s hard work for them. Having said that, I’m not going to give them a pass when it comes to the central government’s reconciliation efforts.

So is he saying that he meant to invade South Africa? I don't know what's more depressing, that this mindless douchebag was "elected" twice, or that roughly 1/3rd of U.S. Americans still think he's doing a swell job.

here's a HYOOOGE phokking lie

General manager Jim Hendry denied Barrett's fight with Zambrano on June 1 was an impetus to get rid of Barrett. "Truthfully, the fight had nothing to do with it," Hendry said.

Yo, Pizzaman, we're not all phokking idiots like you.

More phokking bullshit:
"We felt [Barrett] was well on his way* to becoming a terrific player*, an All-Star caliber player*," Hendry said. "This year he has had a tougher time defensively, and a lot of it's probably from trying too hard, and some of it's maybe because it's the last year of his deal, but he has been a really, really good offensive player*."

* So you trade him FOR NOTHING and THROW IN
$1.5 MEEEEELLION? Why hasn't this blubbering, idiotic, stoooooopid, moron been fired already?

Stark Drinking the Kool-Aid

People in Chicago would be amazed how many scouts following the NL Central report that they either think (a) the Cubs are a better, more talented team than the Brewers, or (b) the Cubs will end up winning the division. “I know they’ve played spotty, to say the least,” one scout said of the Cubs. “But I think they have a chance to rip off about 14 [wins] out of 15 one of these days.” The scout’s theory is that the Cubs have played tight, in great part because they haven’t adjusted to Lou Piniella’s personality and he hasn’t adjusted to them. “I think they’re at a real turning point,” the scout said. “If Lou can use that [suspension] time to watch from afar for a few days and then come back and make some adjustments, I think that team could take off. And knowing Lou, I think he can and he will.”
