Milton Bradley left Tuesday's game with a right calf strain, the team's official site reports.
Recommendation: Reed Johnson replaced Bradley in the field for the fourth inning. He's struggled to produce around nagging injuries this season, and it's only Year 1 of the three-year, $30 million deal that Jim Hendry gave him over the winter.

It's been a great signing, so far...
Milton Bradley is not in the Cubs' starting lineup on Thursday.
He returned to action on Wednesday night, but went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts, and manager Lou Piniella has now told him he won't start until he's 100 percent. Furthermore, when he does return, he's expected to bat sixth instead of fourth. Micah Hoffpauir, starting in right field on Thursday, will get the majority of playing time until Bradley is ready.
So between "not being 100 percent," suspensions and the weather (blame Skilly!), M-Brad might be looking at 100 games played this year. Still, he is great in the clubhouse.
In related "What is Hendry smoking?" news, Luis Vizcaino (ERA 0.00) and his $3.6 million* salary have been released and Jeff Samardzija has been recalled. I must have missed what Samardzija has done other than walking a lot of guys?
*Make that $4.6 million since Pizza Man gave Colorado $1 million to take the mistake that was Jason Marquis off his hands.

Say it ain't So!
The Cubs have reportedly agreed to a minor league deal with outfielder So Taguchi.
Assuming that Felix Pie is gone, Taguchi would battle Joey Gathright for a job as a reserve outfielder in spring training. However, it'd be one of those cases in which a team would much prefer to see the younger player win the job. Taguchi hit .220/.283/.297 in 91 at-bats for the Phils last year.

This will be fun...
Should we start a pool and pick a date for when he inevitably blows up and says something to the affect of "Fuck those fuckin' fans who come out here and say they're Cub fans that are supposed to be behind you, rippin' every fuckin' thing you do. I'll tell you one fuckin' thing, I hope we get fuckin' hotter than shit, just to stuff it up them 40,000 fuckin' people that show up every fuckin' day, because if they're the real Chicago fuckin' fans, they can kiss my fuckin' ass right downtown and PRINT IT! ESPN reports that the Cubs and Milton Bradley have agreed to terms on a three-year, $30 million contract. That was the expected amount, but it still looks like a pretty poor deal for the Cubs, especially with Pat Burrell signing for $16 million over two years on the same day. Bradley may or may not still be an above average defensive outfielder. What we can be relatively certain of is that he won't be a healthy one for long. Bradley has played in 130 games just once in his career. He's an underrated star when he's on the field, but he's not worth a $30 million commitment.

The Chicago Tribune reports that the Cubs "are exploring the possibility" of signing Jim Edmonds. Let go by the Padres last week, Edmonds' arrival would send Felix Pie back to Triple-A. He batted .178/.265/.233 in 26 games with the Padres, whereas Pie is hitting .222/.286/.286 through 29 games, and Edmonds is 15 years older.

That was quick. The Padres acquired Edmonds during the offseason and now cut him loose after 90 at-bats despite owing him $6 million. Edmonds has hit just .178/.265/.233 while showing decreased range in center field, but giving up on him this early is still plenty surprising. Jody Gerut has been called up to replace him on the roster and could see time in center field along with Scott Hairston. Chase Headley is still waiting in the wings at Triple-A.
