Anthony Randolph started in his hometown on Wednesday (Dallas), finishing with 10 points, six rebounds and two steals, but Don Nelson wasn't thrilled with him after the game.
"Because he came home, I wanted to start him," Nelson said. "I was pretty disappointed when he reverted back to the way he wants to play, which is the way that we had him in training camp — coming down wild and shooting every time. I bent over backwards to make sure he played a lot tonight so he could play in front of his family, and that was a bit of a disappointment." Knowing Nelson, his anger with the young big man could result in another start over Brandan Wright in his next game.

Cops: Ohio man shot self after running over friend

SAGAMORE HILLS, Ohio — Police say an Ohio man fatally shot himself in the head moments after realizing he had run over a friend in a bar parking lot.
Summit County Sheriff's Sgt. Scott Cottle says witnesses saw Erich Schultz and Stacy DiJulius arguing in the parking lot after both had been drinking at a bar in Sagamore Hills, about 20 miles south of Cleveland.
Cottle says 38-year-old Schultz tried to drive away in his Jeep, but DiJulius tried to enter the vehicle as it moved and fell under one of the tires. Cottle says it appears Schultz accidentally ran over DiJulius and he felt so bad about it that he took out a gun and shot himself.
The 39-year-old DiJulius died at a hospital after Saturday night's accident. Schultz died on Sunday.

Man Rescued from Latrine
An unidentified man was rescued from a waste tank under a rest stop bathroom on Highway 30 near Filer, Idaho on Thursday. He had climbed into the tank to look for his keys. Another driver found him and called emergency services. Police, firefighters, paramedics, and other emergency response personnel responded, and found the man up to his neck in sewage. They summoned highway maintenance department workers, who retrieved the man by opening an access port used to remove waste. Pictured is Filer Police Chief Cliff Johnson, who told the story to local news.
“It took some lifting to get him out, and he had cut himself pretty good trying to get himself out,” Johnson said.
The man was allowed to wash off with the fire truck hose at the scene, where he made another painful discovery.
“That’s when he discovered the keys were still in his back pocket,” Johnson said.

Sherry L. Johnston was arrested by Alaska State Troopers at her Wasilla home Thursday December 18, 2008 and charged with six felony counts of misconduct involving a controlled substance. Johnston is the mother of Levi Johnston, the Wasilla 18-year-old who received international attention in September when Gov. Sarah Palin and her husband, Todd, announced their teenage daughter was pregnant and he was the father.

Golfer Daly arrested at Hooters after drinking binge: report

WINSTON-SALEM, North Carolina (Ticker)—Former PGA golfer John Daly recently spent a night in jail after Winston-Salem police found him drunk outside a city restaurant, the Winston-Salem Journal reported Wednesday. Lt. Tyrone Phelps told the newspaper that Daly was held at the Forsyth County Jail early Sunday morning to sober up. According to the Winston-Salem Journal, paramedics went to a Hooters restaurant at 1 a.m. after receiving a report that Daly had passed out. When police arrived, they found Daly intoxicated and unwilling to go to a hospital. He was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct. “He didn’t want to talk to the (police officers),” Phelps told the newspaper.

The newspaper reported that Daly was traveling on a tour bus and told police that the people on the bus did not want him back on it after the Hooters closed. According to North Carolina state law, police can in some cases jail a person overnight to sober up.
Daly was later released on an unsecured bond. A winner of two majors, Daly, 42, has not had a PGA Tour card for the past two years. In March, Butch Harmon quit as his swing coach. At the time, Harmon said of Daly that “the most important thing in his life is getting drunk.”

Blago blames economy for his low popularity
(AP) — Gov. Rod Blagojevich is blaming his low approval rating on the nation's slumping economy.

The governor says his 13 percent job approval rating is unrelated to the federal corruption investigation that's been swirling around his administration.

Blagojevich contends that he'd easily win if he were running for governor in the upcoming election (if the Republican candidate was a squirrel... which wouldn't be as unlikely as it sounds... Ed...)...

Phil Gramm, a former Texas senator and a co-chair of McCain's presidential campaign...told the Washington Times that America has "become a nation of whiners" and the country is in the midst of a "mental recession."

"We have sort of become a nation of whiners. You just hear this constant whining, complaining about a loss of competitiveness, America in decline," he said. “You've heard of mental depression; this is a mental recession."

Gramm also said the media was responsible for fostering unnecessary anxiety over the state of the economy. "Misery sells newspapers,” he said. “Thank God the economy is not as bad as you read in the newspaper every day."

Well, sure, if you could just go over and tell my friend that - he was laid off last week.

Oh, and the six teachers excessed at my school, and the two guidance counselors, including one who did amazing work - we had about one guidance counselor for every 500 or so students this year. They want to hear how well the economy is doing.

In New York City the tax revenues are so far down that they're going to be cutting all kinds of transit related work - they have seen the future and it is the CTA.

Let's not even talk about California. Or Michigan, where GM is quickly becoming a junk stock - $43 to $9 in about ten months.

It is not always the media's fault. Usually the fault in the media is that they present both sides as if each side in an argument has an equally compelling argument. Your argument is the argument of an insane or angry man, and is only worth noting as a way of showing just how far out of touch the wealthy powerful men of this country are.

Glue Factory?

Following Steve Trachsel's ugly relief outing Saturday, the Baltimore Sun reports that the Orioles "could make a decision shortly on the veteran's roster status." Trachsel was asked to close out an eight-run lead and allowed four runs before being yanked. The newspaper notes that he "appeared incredulous" when manager Dave Trembley came out to the mound to remove him from the game. Trachsel has an 8.39 ERA and the team made a big deal about moving him to the bullpen after a career spent as a starter, so there's seemingly little reason to keep him around at this point.

Deja vu: Benson driving drunk again

Bears RB Cedric Benson was arrested early this morning and charged with drunken driving in downtown Austin, Texas.
After being stopped for a traffic violation, Benson failed a field sobriety test and subsequently refused both a breathalyzer and blood test. On the heels of Benson's BWI incident, the rogue running back may be more trouble than he's worth to the Bears. Lost in Magowan’s retirement announcement was that Giants General Manager Brian Sabean said he thinks his team can contend in the NL West this season and does not plan to trade the many veterans that still dot the San Francisco roster.
