Eric Chavez will undergo a second microdiscectomy on his back, this time on a different spot, according to the Athletics.
The A's confirmed that he'd miss the rest of the season. "This is his best chance to play again. ... It's been tough for him personally," Geren said. Darin Erstad left Thursday's game in the sixth inning with an apparent leg injury.
Erstad put a ball in play and immediately fell to the ground clutching the back of his leg, before limping to first base. He appeared to be in a great deal of pain and had trouble exiting the field, but it's possible that it was merely a cramp. He went 2-for-3 with an RBI before leaving and was replaced in left field by Andy Gonzalez.

The Sox are officially done.
