"Of all the things that both Gulliani and Palin could have fixed on as a line of attack, the idea of community organizing as work for pussies is not what I would have expected, and Lord knows my expectations after Swift Boat Veterans for Truth are prety low. But what amazed me was how many folks on the floor of the RNC Convention actually laughed and whooped it up at the very mention of being a community organizer, before even getting to the supposed punchline about how it doesn't give you any “real” experience."

In Washington, House Minority Leader John Boehner is struggling to rebrand a downtrodden and disheartened Republican Party in time for the 2008 elections. It's no wonder. Its agenda stymied and burdened by an unpopular war and an even less popular President, the GOP is being pulverized in the polls. And with its evangelical base splintered and big business supporters jumping ship, the only message seemingly uniting Republicans is disdain - of immigrants, of blacks, of gay Americans and above all, Muslims. Huckabee's Belief in Adam and Eve

Mike Huckabee’s views on how life began came up again in a recent interview the Republican candidate had with Bill O’Reilly, a talk-show host on Fox News.

According to this account in The Washington Post, Mr. Huckabee, a former governor of Arkansas, told Mr. O’Reilly he has no reason to doubt that Adam and Eve were real people. He also reiterated that, even though he is not sure of the details of how it unfolded, he does believe God created humans.

The item quotes Bill Maher, a talk-show host on HBO, who argued in an interview with Mr. Huckabee that the topic was relevant: “If someone believes that the earth is 6,000 years old, when every scientist in the world knows it’s billions of years old, why shouldn’t I take that into account when I’m assessing the rationality of someone I’m going to put in the highest office in the land?”
