etymology marches on
I was there! We were probably among the very last ones to get through in time.
Purplegate
A serious and preventable error caused by poor planning, derived from the denial of entry to thousands of ticketholders at the Purple Gate on Inauguration Day 2009.
Q: On this, George W. Bush's last day in office, what one word do you feel best describes the past eight years?
A: Purplegate.

Less than 24 hours left for Bush to destroy the universe
If you don't think he's capable of it, read this. It's possible that nobody ever sucked at anything as much as he has sucked at this.

Jesse White Tumbles
Notice how eagerly he backpedals when faced with the horrific prospect of being the last one with his integrity intact...
Reid and Durbin said Burris' certificate, since it lacks White's signature, violates a Senate rule that has been in place since the 19th century.
"This has been a rule in the United States Senate since 1884," Durbin said. "We have never, ever (ever, ever, ever... ed.) waived this rule for any election or appointment.
"Everyone has to present a certificate, signed by the governor, cosigned by the secretary of state. ... So it's an important rule and one not easily challenged or changed," said Durbin, who noted that he has known Burris for decades.
White, however, disputed the claim that his signature was needed on Burris' certificate, saying Wednesday that he was the "fall guy" for politicians who oppose Burris.
"They could have seated him without my signature," White told WGN Radio. "It carries a lot of weight, but my signature is mostly ceremonial rather than being a point of law."
In other words, my opposition was strictly symbolic, not meant to be taken seriously, nothing to see here (move along), hey where are you guys going, don't leave me standing here, etc. etc.

The Final Outrage
Buffalo loses to UConn 38-20 in the International Bowl in Toronto (the MAC now losing in foreign countries), to bring their conference bowl record to 0-4.
Meanwhile, after Ohio St. loses to Texas, the Big Ten will finish at 1-6 (and that doesn't even include Michigan, who sucked so bad they didn't qualify for a bowl).
Resolved: the Midwest needs to take a break from college football next year.

Cupcake vs. Cupcake
When the idea for ESPN Classic was cooked up, this couldn't have been what they had in mind.
Navy lost to Notre Dame and Northern Illinois hasn't beaten a team with a winning record all year. Could they both lose?

Why yes, only 56 DAYS, 9 Hrs, 4 Mins, 12.8 Secs to go...
Bush, who spoke after meeting with Paulson and other Cabinet members at the Treasury Department, said they all realize that Americans are concerned for their jobs and savings.
"We will safeguard the financial system as the first step necessary for economic recovery," the president said. "This is a tough situation. But we will recover from it."

Is K-Mad also "Hunter" at the Daily Kos?
Well, his dream is to one day shoot a big dog with Sarah Palin, preferably from an aeroplane...
Republican "Permanent Majority" Lasts Less Than One Presidency
by Hunter
Wed Nov 05, 2008 at 06:00:05 PM PST
A few years ago, Republican strategists were crowing about a new "permanent Republican majority". As of last night, Republicans are a regional party with a narrowly defined ideology and abysmal support among the next generations of voters.
And all it took was, you know, Republicans sucking on every conceivable level, dragging the nation into botched war efforts, corruption in the Department of Justice, and the possible collapse of our entire financial system.
So... yay us, I guess.
