Floodwaters Push U. of Iowa to Evacuate Library and Cancel Classes
The University of Iowa was forced to cancel classes for the next week and evacuate its main library as floodwaters continued to rise today in Iowa City.
The university is using sandbags to protect campus buildings from a swelling Iowa River. Efforts are under way to remove special collections from the library.
Administrators canceled classes from June 14 to June 22 and called off a number of other campus events, according to a Web site set up to provide flooding information.
