imperviousness to irony (cont'd)

Exclusive: Scientists warn that there may be no ice at North Pole this summer

It seems unthinkable, but for the first time in human history, ice is on course to disappear entirely from the North Pole this year.

. . .

If it happens, it raises the prospect of the Arctic nations being able to exploit the valuable oil and mineral deposits below these a bed which have until now been impossible to extract because of the thick sea ice above. (YAY! Ed.)

This is perfect. Given the state of the economy this year, laid-off parents can just tell their kids that Santa and his reindeer have drowned.

Every time you turn around the pace of collapse has accelerated again. Two years ago they were saying this might happen in 50 years.

Ok, it's not quite the same thing. They're talking north pole this year, but not the entire Arctic Ocean.

Well, we need more resources, so we need to make them more available, so this global warming thing is a godsend. Arctic circle, then Siberia, now we're working on Antarctica. After we've stripped them, we'll drain the oceans to get more land and we'll put all the water, er, on Mars! And the moon! Making both habitable! It's perfect!
