Dis explains a lot (the never ending story)
While a certain amount of brain shrinkage is normal with age, greater amounts in some parts of the brain have been linked to dementia.
I think this explains Smiff in a nutshell. K-Mad too. And why I'm the only sane person on dis blog.

Decker gonna be around by any chance? Also, someone tell Skilly not to make it too cold. I no longer have a winter coat, and don't want to buy one eider. It looks like "seasonable" temps through Sunday, but then again this is a Skilly forecast so anything can happen...

if you needed further evidence John McCain is totally FULL@$#!T
Beneath John McCain's carefully constructed image as an incorruptible war hero lies a cynical opportunist with a record of reckless behavior and dishonesty. By Tim Dickinson
In its broad strokes, McCain's life story is oddly similar to that of the current occupant of the White House. John Sidney McCain III and George Walker Bush both represent the third generation of American dynasties. Both were born into positions of privilege against which they rebelled into mediocrity. Both developed an uncanny social intelligence that allowed them to skate by with a minimum of mental exertion. Both struggled with booze and loutish behavior. At each step, with the aid of their fathers' powerful friends, both failed upward. And both shed their skins as Episcopalian members of the Washington elite to build political careers as self-styled, ranch-inhabiting Westerners who pray to Jesus in their wives' evangelical churches.
In one vital respect, however, the comparison is deeply unfair to the current president: George W. Bush was a much better pilot.

liberal media running with LoC 'squirrel brains' meme
The couple would catch wild hogs, feed them corn for a year and eat them once the wild taste was out of the scavenging animals. They also took advantage of available squirrel meat, a common food in the South at that time.
"It was a uniquely disgusting thing ... to see my grandfather take a stewed, skinned squirrel's head, smack the skull's dome with a heavy silver tablespoon, and dine on the brains," LeBlanc (French phokk?) said.
Meme is one of those words you only hear in the liberal (French phokk) media, by the way. See also: underscore, robust.

He'll whip that one's you-know-what
McCain made that pledge as top advisers said he is weighing new economic proposals to help the nation weather the financial crisis. The Arizona senator refused to answer a reporter's question Sunday about what plans he might be considering.
at least they didn't include his middle name
Officials at an upstate elections board were red-faced yesterday after mailing hundreds of absentee ballots offering "Barack Osama" as the Democratic choice for president.
The Rensselaer County Board of Elections recalled 300 ballots that erroneously featured the al Qaeda leader's name.
"The error was not deliberate, and the Board of Elections is continuing to fairly manage the upcoming general election in a bipartisan and cooperative manner," Republican Larry Bugbee and Democratic Edward McDonough said.
Bugbee said the ballot had slipped through despite three different proofreaders, according to the Albany Times Union.

I'm not sure this means anything as Philly fans have booed Santa Claus, Mike Schmidt, babies, grandmothers, people in wheelchairs, Ben Franklin etc.
Sarah Palin dropped the puck at the Philadelphia Flyers hockey game and was roundly booed by the crowd. A few fans were cheering but the booing was overwhelming and just went on and on and on. The New York Times hockey blog said that the boos were "resounding (almost deafening)."

McCain booed after trying to calm anti-Obama crowd (AP)
~~~
On Friday, McCain rejected the bait.
"I don't trust Obama," a woman said. "I have read about him. He's an Arab."
McCain shook his head in disagreement, and said:
"No, ma'am. He's a decent, family man, a citizen that I just happen to have disagreements with (him) on fundamental issues and that's what this campaign is all about."
He had drawn boos with his comment: "I have to tell you, he is a decent person and a person that you do not have to be scared of as president of the United States."
Politician, elect thyself...
October 10, 2008
BY ASSOCIATED PRESS
ANCHORAGE, Alaska---- Trying to head off a potentially embarrassing state ethics report on GOP vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin, campaign officials released their own report Thursday that clears her of any wrongdoing.
John McCain to Vets: Go Phokk Yourselves
RIECKHOFF: There were 53 original co-sponsors on both sides of the aisle [for the new GI Bill]. Eventually, right-wing folks like Senator Warner got involved with folks on the left like Senator Webb. Every major veteran services organization in the country supported it, more ¾ of the House. So, this was kind of a legislative locomotive. And one of the only blocks along the way consistently was Senator McCain.
just back away... slowwwwwly...
I'll say this for McCain/Palin - until the last few weeks I thought we already had the worst possible American citizens running the country. Now I feel like I owe Bush/Cheney an apology.
The Chicago Way, in a nutshell
Now you see how Chicago’s aldermen could make the city one of the most paternalistic in the country. They either don’t have to abide by the laws they pass, or they can simply pass a new law exonerating themselves should they get caught.
What had been a disdain for liberal intellectuals slipped into a disdain for the educated class as a whole...
The Republicans have alienated whole professions. Lawyers now donate to the Democratic Party over the Republican Party at 4-to-1 rates. With doctors, it’s 2-to-1. With tech executives, it’s 5-to-1. With investment bankers, it’s 2-to-1. It took talent for Republicans to lose the banking community.
Fung's property taxes: the Reader knows all, tells some...
Cook County assessor James Houlihan and Senate president Emil Jones wanted to raise the exemption to $40,000 permanently. Madigan successfully insisted that it only be bumped up to $40,000 for a year, and that’s what was applied to your last tax bill. It fell to $26,000 for this tax bill, and next year it’ll drop to $20,000, the same as it was four years ago...
...your 2007 property taxes — the ones you’re paying now — are based on an assessment done in 2006, when the housing market was still strong. The impact of the current bust won’t be felt on tax bills until the next assessment, in 2009.
Damned Taxers & Spenders!
Fung's property tax bill was 50% higher than last years. 50%? And WTF am I getting 4 dat? Anyone? Better schools? Parks-Museum/Aquarium Bond? WTF is dat? Though Sarge would gladly pay anything that keeps Shedd going. I better find out where this line to protest is at.
I got the revaluation thing last year. I had NO clue what it meant. It didn't tell me what my new taxes would be. It was just a buncha numbers. Now Fung thinks he's as smart as any cookie out there, but he was just lost. Lost in those figgers. Now he's gotta pay 50% more. For the same ol' $#!+.
Listen to Fung complain. And it's not like he can't afford this increase. I just wonder how those who can't are coping. Because I can tell you I didn't budget for this. You can't budget for a 50% increase. And it sounds like others had even higher increases.
McCain - wid da tarrists
On Wednesday morning, John McCain's campaign released a list of 100 former ambassadors endorsing the GOP presidential nominee.
Second on the list, though her name is misspelled, is Leonore Annenberg, currently the president and chairman of the Annenberg Foundation and widow of ambassador and philanthropist Walter Annenberg. Ms. Annenberg was herself the "chief of protocol" at the State Department under President Reagan.
If the last name sounds familiar, it's because it also graces the name of the Chicago education board where Barack Obama and William Ayers sat in the room six times together.
Barbara Ann
I don't think McCain made any major errors, though he continues to amaze me with his failure to show any humanity towards Obama. I suppose that may be called for when some of your support believes that your opponent is (1) a Manchurian candidate (2) a closet Muslim (3) colored (4) the anti-Christ or all of the above. I must admit though I like the wink and nod McCain doctrine - (sure we are willing to bomb anyone, anytime, anywhere) we just aren't going to talk about bombing anyone - that would be wrong. I mean it worked for Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines. Better to be duplicitous and bellicose. [Ed: this means lie and fight - Sarah].
I just found myself thinking - I'd rather be reading policy papers from both candidates than enduring this junk.
quit making sweeping generalizations about rednecks
SIR - In America, the redneck is not as homogeneous as Bagehot presumes. In Sarah Palin's state of Alaska, there are only two species of tree squirrel. They are both classified as "fur" animals: one has a very minimal amount of meat and the other is nocturnal. Hunting for either, while legal, is non-existent. Consequently, if you did come across someone eating "squirrel gumbo" it would be a very rare occurrence indeed.
By the way, gumbo is a dish of the American South, and is thus less likely to be found on the table of an Alaskan redneck than bear bourguignon.
But... Joe Biden said deregulation was bad...
Doug Schoen, a Democratic strategist and pollster who worked for President Bill Clinton for six years, said that should Mr. Obama win next month, he should not mistake his election for a mandate for sharply higher taxes on the wealthy or major government expansion. “The polling I’ve done shows that people are anti-Republican, not pro-left, not pro-redistribution,” he said. “They’re ever more skeptical of Washington.”
For example, in the poll by CBS News released earlier this week, 44 percent of Americans said businesses now faced “too much” or “the right amount” of regulation, compared to 43 percent who said they faced too little. In a New York Times/CBS News Poll in September, 42 percent said Mr. Bush’s tax cuts, which overwhelmingly benefit the wealthy, should be made permanent, while 36 percent said they should be allowed to expire over the next several years.
Most strikingly, 34 percent described themselves as conservative, compared to only 20 percent as liberal. Those figures have hardly changed since September 2000, when 32 percent described themselves as conservative and 20 percent as liberal.
Then again, what should one expect from...oh. That's the New York Times again. I keep screwing this up...
The environmental damage only now is becoming apparent: At least a half million gallons of crude oil spilled into the Gulf of Mexico and the marshes, bayous and bays of Louisiana and Texas, according to an analysis of federal data by The Associated Press.
A Can't Miss Opportunity!!
Each week, you can expect a concise newsletter from Newt Gingrich that covers election politics, national defense, education, the environment, or the economy.
Looking back, not looking forward
Dozens of interviews, most from people who requested anonymity to avoid legal repercussions, offer an inside account of the critical juncture when Fannie Mae’s new chief executive, under pressure from Wall Street firms, Congress and company shareholders, took additional risks that pushed his company, and, in turn, a large part of the nation’s financial health, to the brink. ...
Capitol Hill bore down on [former Fannie Mae chief executive Daniel] Mudd as well. The same year he took the top position, regulators sharply increased Fannie’s affordable-housing goals. Democratic lawmakers demanded that the company buy more loans that had been made to low-income and minority homebuyers.
“When homes are doubling in price in every six years and incomes are increasing by a mere one percent per year, Fannie’s mission is of paramount importance,” Senator Jack Reed, a Rhode Island Democrat, lectured Mr. Mudd at a Congressional hearing in 2006. “In fact, Fannie and Freddie can do more, a lot more.”
Then again, what would you expect from...oh. That article actually ran in the New York Times. My bad.
hope for those who opposed a bailout bill
Death and not being a Phocking Moron.
Got into a fight with another lawyer the other day who assured me that my taxes would go up with Obama. I told him I had crunched the numbers already and that he was right, my family stands to pay something between $100 and $2,500 in extra taxes per year with Obama. And we would get something like a $5,000 tax cut with McCain [Ed.: in return for our son' being drafted to die in Iran [Ed. Ed.: or live out a comfortable life with his parents in Canada]]. I told him we didn't really care about paying more if the money was put to good use, to which he called me an idiot. He suggested that I didn't care about making money and I generally agreed with him. In my best jobs, I served as a volunteer. But then I really sent him for a loop and told him we were making lots of money and are doing okay and that as long as I know my taxes ahead of time, I can adjust accordingly. Again names - of course this time he was a little reluctant - because his worldview was that people who make more were superior and I could see he was a little concerned about whether I made more than him. I told him I really only care about my net income not my gross, and he didn't know what to do with himself.
Then I got to thinking about this. I mean seriously - If I offered to give you $100, taking a $95 percent processing fee - would you turn it down? If your boss offered to pay you $1 million a year gross, and your net after taxes would rise by only $10,000 - would you turn it down? How? Now - I support Republicans and fiscal conservatives in their effort to end graft, fraud, etc. but all this crap about govt. standing in you way - ugh. How the hell is government standing in your way if you are making like $19,000 a year. That was how much I made in my first job out of college. I wasn't worried about the govt. hurting me - but I was kind of pissed at my boss.
I kind of liked Biden's answer about taxes and fairness but he can only get out half the story. I liked Sarge's take on it - if I am remembering correctly. The self made man is dead. When you make your money using government education, roads, water, power, policing, fire protection, the government is entitled to its cut. The more you make, the more you have to thank the government for not allowing your bank accounts to be electronically drained, for not allowing your mansion to go up in flames, for having police watch the roads your limo drives on and for firing/beating all the union members who threatened to put you out of business. (too far?). There is no way you would have made the money without the system you are operating within. Try making some money in a country without a government. Now there's a self made man. This is why I support a 0% tax rate on all entrepreneurs in Somalia.
Um. Okay
Just for fun, I went and looked through Article II of the Constitution. I think this section makes it pretty clear that despite the acknowledgement that the VP is the president of the Senate in Article I that the VP is part of the executive branch.
U.S. Constitution. Article II, Section 4. The President, Vice President and all civil officers of the United States, shall be removed from office on impeachment for, and conviction of, treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors. [Ed.: This includes lying about blow-jobs].
No such provision appears to exists for members of congress. I suppose I get extra credit for that.
And I can't get "Joe 6-pack" out of my head. I am so not Joe 6-pack, not even Joe Box 'O Wine. My guess is if I met Joe 6-pack he and I would think eachother assholes. Oh well.
if we had listened a little more carefully, we might have gotten a very early clue about how things would go...
BUSH: Well, we do come from different places. I come from being a West Texas.
He then proceeds to talk about what he'll do with the "surplus."
BUSH: Let me just say that obviously tonight we're going to hear some phony numbers about what I think and what we ought to do. People need to know that over the next ten years it is going to be $25 trillion of revenue that comes into our treasurey and we anticipate spending $21 trillion. And my plan say why don't we pass 1.3 trillion of that back to the people who pay the bills? Surely we can afford 5% of the $25 trillion that are coming into the treasury to the hard working people that pay the bills. There is a difference of opinion. My opponent thinks the government -- the surplus is the government's money. That's not what I think. I think it's the hard-working people of America's money and I want to share some of that money with you so you have more money to build and save and dream for your families. It's a difference of opinion. It's a difference between government making decisions for you and you getting more of your money to make decisions for yourself.
I don't know about you, but that extra four treeeellllion dollars is burning a hole in my pocket. Why don't we throw a yooge phokking party for this phokking weasel to thank him for the bang-up job he did...
Happy Fiscal New Year!
It's gonna be the best fiscal year ever...
Under the plausible fiscal-policy scenarios detailed in CBO's latest "Budget and Economic Outlook," which was released earlier this month, the budget deficits for 2017 and 2018 could exceed $1 trillion each year.
Trillion-dollar deficits would be arriving just as the cash-flow surpluses from Social Security turn into cash-flow deficits, a development that would require the federal government to use general revenues to meet Social Security benefit payments.
If the projections hold true, these deficits would become the primary force that would add $10 trillion to the national debt, more than doubling it by 2018.
"Unfortunately, that's the good news," Mr. Orszag said, "because thereafter we start to experience the longer-term budget pressures that are at the heart of the long-term fiscal problems the nation faces."
Willard Scott's joke of the day
A pigeon can still make a deposit on a ferrari!
Then he went on to wish McCain a happy 105th birthday and the McCain's a happy 80th wedding anniversary. Ok I made that up.
