not in photo: Smiff
Photo caption: Uniformed members of the "St. George Spirits Special Forces Tactical Alcohol Consumption Squad" Jennifer Wylie (left), Kevin Roche, and Johanna Mead sample absinthe at the St. George Spirits distillery in Alameda, California on Friday. Hundreds of customers waited hours for the chance to buy the first U.S. made and sold absinthe since 1912.
Sorry, Smiff!
ReplyDeleteHey, who's the babe checking out Smiff?
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like more K-Mad's drink: The green spirit produces an intoxication that is coupled with a caffeine like alertness, according to imbibers.
ReplyDeleteBut i will definetly be picking up a bottle of the 'green fairy.'
Smiff, dat's Johanna Mead of the St. George Spirits Special Forces Tactical Alcohol Consumption Squad, you dummy. Slouch at attention and drink what you're told.
ReplyDeleteChill out, luvs. The squadron is nothing if not laid back. :-)
ReplyDeleteOur command structure boils down to "Whoever's left standing at the end of the night"...
Yes, i figgered dat out after the phokking Tribune finally let me access the article. Question is, how did she find us? are we linked on some "Drunks on the Web" site? Well, we should be. Well, if Ms. Mead ever comes back here, maybe she can recommend a starter absinthe for a newbie?
ReplyDeleteHow'd I find you? Simple! Google.
ReplyDeleteThe TAC met a bunch of media folks at the St. George event, and I was looking to see how much coverage we'd gotten, and this blog came up on the list.
A good absinthe for a newbie: Lucid. Yes, really. It's made by the same distillery and distiller who created Jade, but it's US-legal and not quite as strong/overpowering as Jade is.
If you're willing to pay shipping from Europe, I can recommend a couple of other brands.
Lucid: I am so there. Smiff: Midwinter? I'll need a few by the end of the weekend.
ReplyDeleteBefore the weekend might be a better way to go. I see Sam's Wine sells it (only $65 a bottle!).

Sounds like a meth lab in a bottle:
ALC 62% by VOL. DRINK RESPONSIBLY. WARNING: CONTENTS HIGHLY FLAMMABLE! Serious risk of injury if contents ignited. Do not deliberately ignite or consume near open flame.
...that's just the distillery covering their asses against some idiots setting fire to their sugar - and then themselves.
ReplyDeleteI think wormwoodsociety.org has a nifty little video clip on their FAQ of some fool setting fire to their absinthe-soaked sugar, and then dunking said flaming object into undiluted absinthe (rather than extinguishing it with water into the drink) and then promptly setting fire to himself, the party and - it seems - a few of his fellow guests...
